    XPS - Alpine White

    Just wanted to give people a heads up. I received my alpine white XPS today in the mail. The packaging was very nice, however when I pulled the laptop out of the "black bag" that it came packaged in, the laptop was stained on both the gloss top and on the leather. I called and explained the situation and they said they are sending a replacement. I am hoping that it'll have some protective covering on the laptop inside the black bag or else I imagine this will happen again. :(

    Stained? Pictures would be quite useful... though its good to hear you're getting a replacement (not that you should have expected anything less from them)

    The stains on the gloss area seem to be engrained. I can't feel them and there is no way to get them out. The "tech" person insisted there was some protective layer on the back of the laptop. I wish there had been, but there certainly wasn't. I imagine the motion of the laptop in the box combined with the heat & humidity in the fedex truck is what caused this.

    Wow! and :( That's too bad that happened on your new SXPS.

    I'm glad they are sending you a replacement....I hope the *build* doesn't take that long. Those stains do not look good at all, and it doesn't look like there was any type of protective layer on the back of the lappy at all!

    Hopefully the replacement one is packed a bit better, and tends well on the FedEx truck on it's way to delivery to you this time... ;)

    May be the line worker thought this was Dell's version of Arctic camo, could this be caused by the dye used in the sleeve?

    Really a shame though.

    It doesn't seem like it. There is some symmetry to where the marks are.

    I would also like to know. Last time I checked it was available though dell small business and not Dell Home.

    Well in my particular case it seemed like the movement of the laptop inside the case would have caused the black material to rub off on the laptop. It was all around the edges. If they shipped it in a nice white bag or just bubble wrap then that wouldn't happen.

    I ordered the alpine option before they removed it from the website. My order is still in pre-production. It was ordered on 10/09/09 due on 23/09/09 but now it has been pushed back to 15/10/09.

    No email or explanation from dell.

    Well I spoke with the Dell Customer Service, and they informed me that there was a shortage of supply for the white lids which is why my order is so delayed.

    They did not mention as to why the option has been taken down from the website so quickly, they said it is handled by the Marketing team and it could come up again in the near future.

    Regarding my order I was told that it would arrive much earlier than the date on the order status page. I give them a week. I hope they have corrected the issue or it will go straight back.

    There's always the Merlot Red - mine is beautiful and the glossy part is absolutely flawless. The "leather" portion is fine too - but there is some minor uneveness (uneven-ness? :) ) underneath the red leather. Not enough to bother me though - I am thrilled with it. That said, my white 1520 from late 2007 was also very nice and I was hoping the white Studio's would be equally nice - I guess not though!! :(

    Finally the laptop has now gone in production. I hope this wasn't done so I cannot cancel the order anymore. I will stay optimistic and expect delivery within the week. Once I receive it I will post my review on the white lid.

    my sxps 13 from a system exchange is also delayed like yours, and its also white. Mine has been IN PRODUCTION since 9/12. Can you post here or pm when urs ships?

    The arctic alpine white is once more available as an option on the website. I hope they have fixed the problem.

    Tennisfan, call them up to find out exactly what is happening. I also emailed them and told them that I will cancel since it is taking so long, and they informed me the order had gone in production and it wouldn't be long until I received delivery. They also offered me a 10% additional discount which I gladly accepted.
