Just trying to get an overall sense, it's hard to tell whether people are really happy with A07/130w. Also seems there are some other lingering issues (heat, heat vents, some throttling remaining, Dell deleted the thread on their site, etc)

I am very pleased with the system, however, my trust in Dell has been damaged possibly beyond repair. I am not totally against the idea of purchasing from Dell in the future, but I am less likely to having witnessed the 1645 debacle first-hand.

60 to 40 in favor of ordering again, roughly. Certainly doesn't scream that customers are satisfied overall.

Almost even now! I've been a long time dell customer and I tried emailing Michael Dell about my issues (not relating to the studio xps) and one my biggest complaints was the constant run around you get from Dell.

Wouldn't you know it, my request was handed off from person-to-person before inevitably being dismissed/not addressed.

Well, I had bought quite some notebooks from Dell which includes the Old XPS 15530, XPS Studio 13 and also the XPS Studio 16. XPS 13 and XPS 16 just went right back to Dell after 2-3 days I received them. And the reason they were returned were because they tend to run very hot ! I had BSOD everytime and after trying driver updates etc, I got frustrated! ( even though I loved the RGB LED Screen and the backlit keyboard, and the design is nice too :) )

So, in short I won't order again even though some of the deals on XPS Studio 16 are tempting :D

If I could replace my XPS 16 right now with the new ones they have, I definitely would. I could use probably a 1600x900 screen, the higher-end graphics card, and a white cap ;)

I just wish the speakers were better (clarity depends on the source...and my HP laptop speakers were more versatile). Keyboard is excellent, and I love typing on this. I feel like HP casing is more sturdy. The XPS casing still seems a bit "thin" and bendable. I would buy from Dell again, and probably their new line of high-end laptops when it comes time for me to get a new laptop. One reason I also went for Dell XPS vs. and HP is b/c Dell gave more options for me, and for slightly cheaper price than HP would.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my XPS.

Nah, Dell firstly disappointed me with the defective M1530. Then more disappointment came from their ignorance of some pretty obvious flaws with the issued replacement for my m1530, the XPS 16 ( vent is the main one/ throttling issue another). I would easily go with the Asus G73, if I had a do over.

My problem is I don't trust any computers other than Dells and Alienwares. I partly blame this on the fact that, other than Macs, my XPS and a few Alienwares are the only exposure I have to high-end laptops. Everybody else has $500 plastic toys.

Seriously, I'll never buy another cheap laptop again... plastic casings feel so flimsy to me now. I am, however, debating selling my 1640 when I get it for something better. I doubt it would happen, though.

Yes, I enjoyed my 1640 so much I bought a 1645 to go with it. I am a long time Dell fan. Inspiron 9200> 9300> Precision M90> XPS 1710> XPS1730> Precision M6400> Alienware M17> XPS 1640> Alienware M17x> XPS 1645 just to name a few. My wife has an quad core Optiplex 960 and an E4300 and I have had so few problems with any of these systems that I wouldn't even consider giving my business to anyone else.

What do you expect... electricity generates heat... everything is going to run "hot".

What do I expect? I expect them to design a laptop that has a cooling system not designed by a retarded monkey. Take a look at some of the Asus laptops for some excellent ideas that I wish Dell had the forethought to try and include.

Laptops obviously get hot, but its clear as mud that Dell didn't really perform many proper stress tests on the SXPS 16 for thermal activity. Playing normal games that aren't even close to cutting edge anymore (e.g. Bioshock, which came out 2.5 years ago) throttle the GPU due to terrible cooling in this system. Simply unacceptable.

    I voted no.

The 1645 that I had and the 1340 that my wife had both had issues. Mine throttled and crashed, hers had BSODs... the ordering process was a pain and it took forever to build and ship.

The ordering nightmares were just as hellish with the M11x systems I purchased to replace the S-XPS systems we returned... I ordered them on 2/12, and they FINALLY shipped today, and despite paying for next-business-day shipping, Dell shipped them fedex ground.

My faith in Dell is utterly destroyed. So long as nothing is amidst with my M11x systems, I'll keep them as there is no competition in the sub-12" market. In the future though, or if the M11x systems don't work out for some reason, Dell will not be anywhere on my list of possibilities ever again.

Never will buy dell again. Not only because of all the issues with 1645, but mainly because of the bad local customer care.

Dead heat! 50/50 right down the middle.

For those who wouldn't order again, what would you get?

    For aesthetic appeal, Macbook.

For specs, probably Asus or Sager.

Here in Germany is a range of suppliers for clevo- platforms available. I think one of them will get my next laptop-budget. But the decision highly depends on the market situation then.
