With the same price, should I go for 3D or multi-touch screen?

Can you please help me choosing the better laptop please. I am going to buy XPS 17 but I am hesitated between XPS 17 3D or should I go for multi- touch screen. They have the same spec as shown below

    >> 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor 2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GH
    >> Genuine Windows® Home Premium, 64-Bit, English
    >> 1.0TB 500GB 7.2k HDD x 2
    >> JBL 2.1 Speakers with Waves Maxx Audio 3 + Creative SoundBlaster X-FI MB 1.2

But these below are the different

    XPS17 - Multi-touch

    1>> HD DISPLAY17.3" HD+ (900p) LED Display with 2.0MP HD Webcam & Facial Recognition + Multi-touch screen
    2>>VIDEO CARD-- NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M 3GB graphics with Optimus
3>> Tray Load Blu-ray Disc BD-Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD)

    XPS17 - 3D

    1>> 17.3" FHD (1080p) 3D Display with 2.0MP HD Webcam & Facial Recognition
    2>>NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 550M 1GB graphics
3>> Tray Load Blu-ray® Triple Writer (reads and writes CDs, DVDs, BDs) (which I don't really need it. Blue-ray player is enough for me.)

These 2 laptops are about $1,400 after discount.

Could you please suggest me which one should I buy, which one is better.

And is it worth to buy any of these at this price? or I can find the cheaper one with similar spec? Thank you so much.

Hmm, on a laptop are you really going to touch your screen that much? Its not like the the lid folds around flat so u can use it like a ipad. And with the 3D you lose the optimus and widi. If you dont care about battery power get 3d. If you want to save even more money get the regular 900p screen.

Thank you for your suggestion. I better go for 3D then...Could you please explain more what are "optimus and widi" and what benefit of it?

Actually I may just go to the normal one then. If I remove multitouch function, it will save me $150 as well.

But having 3D is interesting to me. So I can watch 3d movie on my laptop. Or you think it's pointless having 3D? is it good to have 3D as the only benefit is to watch 3D movie? what is your opinion about it.

Well optimus is very cool................ if you take the reg 900p screen or even the non 3D 1080p screen you get optimus, its a integrated video chip that uses next to no power operating your screen and the battery life on your 17 inch could be around 7 to 8 hrs on a 9 cell battery, very cool.

And widi is where you can remotely send what ever is on your screen to a HD TV with a box on your tv called push2go.

EDIT....... Look at my signature, I was in the same situation you were in. ordered a non 3D HD but then I thought ya 3d, so I ordered one, then I found out I lost all my optimus and widi features so the 3rd order I finally got it right, dells system is so dumb that even though its going to take 3 weeks to produce your laptop once its in production (lol) they cant cancel it EVEN 5 minutes after you ordered it

How long it will last if you have 3D?

I never use Dell laptop. Is XPS 17 very good compare to others brand and also thinkpad? (thinkpad is too expensive for same spec than others)

Is it really worth to buy XPS 17? do you think it beats other brand laptops with similar spec? and will they have a lot of problem. Let me know how you experience using dell laptops so far. Cheers again.

Oh and ..is 3D on XPS 17 cool (if not considering batter life and optimus)?

and the fan is noisy or quiet? is the screen anti-glare?

I can't really answer any questions about 3D cause I dont have it. But I can say that I have bought nothing but dell laptops and never really had any problems with them.

I have read your battery will last maybe 3 hrs with no optimus, even less if you are playing a high graphic game.

Is it cool to watch a 17 inch 3D screen? Overall I would say no. Save that for your 55 inch LED TV screen in my opinion, but everyone is different.

Remember too that replacement 3D glasses are 150.00 each and everyone needs their own pair.

The 3D is actually pretty impressive on the L702x. You can get the nVidia glasses from Amazon for $98 shipped.

No, have not received it yet. Its still in production. BUT.......... I did finally get the first one with 6GB of ram TODAY that I knew I was sending back because I never ordered it with a tv tuner. Silly me, I thought it was a cable tuner, turns out its a over the air HD tuner. I can use that lol.

I'd like to point out that you can always stream the 3D from your 702x to a 3D TV and still use the nVidia glasses (provided your laptop is open and near the TV).

Also, 3D Vision glasses are down to $50-60 on Amazon. There was even a guy on Craigslist selling 2 pairs, with cases and cables, for $80. Just gotta shop around, I don't recommend buying from nVidia or Dell. Also, you don't need the USB IR Emitter either, so find a pair to buy without that.

OH, and you can stream 3D from your NON-3D XPS 17 as well, but you have to have an emitter and glasses for your TV.
