Does anyone know if windows 8 can be installed on a dell xps m1530 via efi on bios rev a12? Or is there a custom bios flash around that will make this possible.

I know it's a 4-5 year old computer, but it still works great after only replacing the fan with constant use. And $14.99 is cheaper then a new computer.

No windows 8 installs fine with zero driver issues on an m1530. My question is there a way to enable uefi on it for boot speed?

Boot speed with efi and windows 8 is faster then normal.

    So they say.

You didn't answer the question though.

    ;^(

FWIW, on my xps 15 l521x (i7, 16 gb ram)
    - win 7 on 7200 rpm drive with 32 FB mSATA SSD with caching, boot time from cold was 20-30
    - win 8 on 120gb SSD, boot time from cold is 10-15.

    Faster? sure.

Revolutionizing my life with the machine? No.

Win 8 startup from hibernation and sleep are faster than win 7 though, and that is nice.

I normally just don't reboot the machine much, at all. Just sleep/hibernate. Bios vs UEFI doesn't make as much difference then.

Now, if you we're going for Secure Boot, that is a whole other kettle of fish.

I totally understand what you're saying. The dell xps I have tends to hang on sleep so I try not to use it too often. By no means do I need efi. Just wondering if it was possible is all. This is my old computer my girl uses as her daily Facebook stalking machine and just trying to get it to run as smoothly as I can for her.

If she could take the change' think about Ubuntu Linux ... would scream on the machine and be less maintenance. Probably.

She could never do with that. She's too used to windows. Plus she needs remote desktop for work and I doubt they would set it up under Linux.

I actually like Ubuntu but would never use it as a main system. I just trouble shoot with it.
