Hey guys. I'm about to pick up the XPS M1730, maxxed out on pretty much everything. Now I was considering throwing the Windows 7 beta on there, but I haven't really found anything saying if there are any problems with doing that, driver conflicts, software conflicts, that kind of thing.

So, anyone here have any experience with it?

as far as i know, all the drivers and software work flawlessly on the m1530 ( using it right now as main OS, im loving it )

if you use the vista video drivers ( or any driver ) it will work without a problem :D ( vista 64 drivers for 7 64bit, and vista 32 drivers for 7 32bit )

Well, I couldn't resist the ~$1000 savings right now, so I picked one up fully loaded, should arrive at the end of the month. I'm gonna drop Windows 7 into it straight away and see how it flies, if nothing else it's a quick way to axe the bloatware =)

Hopefully it all works, I'll let you all know. Thanks for the responses =)

There is very little 'bloatware' these days from Dell - at least my M1730 didn't come with any...

W7 is nice, but you`ll have problems with drivers, especially for the 64 bit version.
But it runs nice...I kinda like it, and being able to use all 4 gigs of ram is also a plus.

That's good to hear about the lack of bloat. The last system I bought was the xps m1210 a few years back. It died a rather untimely death at the hands of a phone, a bed, and a bad bounce. But I seem to remember quite a bit of uninstalling before I was happy with it.

What kind of driver issues were you running into? I will use the system for games (duh) and some high def video editing, so issues affecting those uses are big red flags.

As for the system itself, good god. I rebuilt my desktop about 6 or 7 months back, but the specs on this thing blow it away. C&P from packing list incoming

Once you have 'The Beast' in your possesion, take a look at my Vista Driver page - see my signature. These are the drivers I use. I update the list as new drivers are released and after I verify functionality with M1730.

I have not tried Windows 7 yet, but plan on doing so soon. From my understanding, if you run Windows 7 x64 most of the Vista x64 drivers will work.

The Beast, huh? Heh, I like it, but I have a fire theme going on with my systems, desktop - Wildfire, broken laptop - Firefly, UMPC - Firespray, iPhone - Foxfire, so I gotta keep the pattern alive. I was considering Phoenix for the whole rising from the ashes of the broken laptop, but without the word "fire" it's just not a match.

Or maybe I'm just being obsessive =)

How did you get it to install? When I try to install it on mine it does not find my hard drive and asks me to supply a driver... the only driver I can find is an executable and it wont take that.... any ideas?
