    This is a bit weird

I've installed Windows 7 on 2 machines, 1 on my XPS 1340, the other on a Thinlpad X60s. The Thinkpad is a fresh install, but somehow has a power management scheme where the battery isn't charged automatically even when plugged in, and dims the screen when the computer is inactive, where I can find those options for my 1340?

Download the Dell Power schemes from the support/drivers page on support.dell.com. They have a place where you can set slightly more specific power settings than Windows 7 has by default, including not charging the battery when plugged in. I did this on my new 1340 last night.

The Thinkpad has its own enchanced management for you to specify at what % to start charging to reduce battery wear, which I like a lot but unfortunately is not available elsewhere.

I know it's got the software, but it's a fresh installation, so the lenovo tools haven't been installed yet.

Haven't done my X61T yet so IDK. Wished Dell has something like that though as I tend to have the unit plugged in frequently...

You got me curious so I took out a fresh HDD and installed Pro RTM 64 on the X61t without windows update, there's NO Lenovo beta driver on the HDD and I did not see that setting for when to begin charging.

Is it possible that you grabbed that service somehow or Windows update did it?

OTOH, the Dell panel does have a Charge/don't charge check box....

Update - After installing Lenovo's Power Manager & Power Management drivers, the when-to-charge option showed up...
