I'd like to buy an M1530 but it hasn't been refreshed in forever. Does anybody know if Dell is phasing out this series to replace it with the Studio XPS series?

I'd like to get any computer of comparable build quality, i.e., with a magnesium alloy frame but options around this price range seem limited. I don't want a Thinkpad...design is too business like for me.

Any information on the future of the XPS series, and/or comparable laptops would be appreciated!

They are phasing out the XPS M1530 and the M1330 and have replaced them with the Studio XPS 16 and Studio XPS 13. They no longer sell the M1530 or the M1330 in the UK.

Dell started using the "XPS" as a brand modifier now.. ie (normal) Studio and Studio XPS as the top tier of the Studio line. So, the XPS will probably not reappear, in name anyways.

So Studio XPS is probably your only option if you want something with more recent components from Dell in this price range.

Check the Alienware section for discussion of the M15x refresh...it looks like that could be the next high-end 15" from Dell.

Awhile back, my Rep said that once the XPX 1530/1330 line is completely phased out that's it. :( And, referred me to the XPS line! :p lulz.

I think the SXPS line is very nice..but I shall surely miss the look, and performance of the 1530!~

1530 had great peformance so much so that it's one of the most frequent seen computers by Dell techs along with the 1330m

I would be one of those peep's that had a visit from a Dell Tech. - replaced my Motherboard after 6 months of ownership. No complaints here now, back then yes ~ after it was fixed and working properly going forward there was no use for *complaining*.

I have no qualms with my 1530...I still love it. You will find that most peep's still enjoy their 1530's.

I would love to see Dell's actual stat's on which lappy's have the most *frequent tech visits*!

It may have a lot of problems, but the m1330 is still the best looking Dell laptop I've seen. If they updated it to DDR3 and a better video card, I'd buy it in a heart beat. I hate the SXPS13, had it and returned it.

Yes, I know...but it would be a neat thing to see. I like stats.

I would also buy one again, I really like the one I have but would also like to see a different video card in it and DDR3 memory, but with having replaced the mainboard once and will have to do it again as I am having issues again I won't buy it again. I was looking at the studio xps 13" but I looked at one in Best Buy and it seemed really cheap looking and not a good build.

I saw one at my Best Buy a week or two ago. Don't recall seeing any when I went back to check for the 14z (they had the 14z though).

That's a pity...I like the Studio XPS line, but I'm not willing to pay even more than the original XPS laptops for the same range of specs.

I guess I'll have to look elsewhere for my next laptop... :(
