In light of the recent GPU failures in the 8600M GTs, I decided to buy a laptop cooler just in case. ) Targus Chill Mat, if it helps. It wasn't in the thread on the accessories forum)

    CPU Before Pad:

    50-55C Idle
    65-70C playing TF2 @ 1440x900/Max settings

    GPU Before Pad

    60-65C Idle
    75-80C playing TF2

    CPU After Pad

    45-50C Idle
    55-60C playing TF2

    GPU After Pad

    55-60C Idle
    65-70C playing TF2

Are those proper temps for the addition of a cooling pad with the m1530? Or is it just a placebo effect?

the actual 'problem' is that nVidia had too much variance in material for the card construction itself... too frequent heating+cooling of card may mean different expansion and contraction rates for the card itself, leading to failure

ur temperatures are okay.... look at mine, nVidia 8400 idling 60+, goes up to 90+ for gaming...

(u just need to raise the back of laptop up, like the 9cell battery, for some effect... the cooling fans may help an extra 2-5degrees.

Yes, probably. I've had no problems before playing Orange Box for hours on end without studdering. It's just a precaution in light of the recent developments. I <3 my m1530.

Anything below 90C is fine, on the other hand your CPU temps are a little high. I play 4 hours of WoW or FFXI and I never seen my peak over 62-64.

If you're worried about heat, you really need to do your own thermal paste treatment.

I bought one today as well - a Belkin. Really it can't hurt. The cooler your machine operates the better so while the cooler may not help a GPU defect it may help other things and these chill mats seem to range from $25 from Nextech to $39. Hardly a huge expense even if it is a gimmick.
