my quess is no...the xps gen2 has a 17.1 screen......the xps gen2 panel will work in a 9200, 9300....never any mention of the 9400...i went to ebay, and it seems the 9400 has a 17inch screen, the xps gen 2, 9200,9300, 17.1 inch screen......so there is difference in form factor.0

I am pretty sure they will work. The Inspiron 9200/9300/9400 XPS gen2/M170/1710 and Precision M90/M6300 all shared a 17.1" chassis and form factor.

Thank you for the input. I have found a 9400 with a bad video card. My Gen 2 has a bad screen. Do you think it would be better ( If possible) to install my video card in the broken 9400?

    The Card in the 9400 is UF804 Card, Graphics, 256MB, I9400, G70[/I

The Card in the Gen 2 is 256MB NvV42, XPS]

    Thanks for the help

The operation is complete with out a hitch. No mod was required and fit right in my XPS. I then oven baked my bad video card from the used Inspiron 9400 I had bought. It is working fine. Thanks again cheers :)
