I expect my machine to arrive next week and would like to upgrade the HD to SSD. I'm looking for a reliable SSD, perhaps an Intel drive. Don't need more than 120 GB (moving the HD to the optical bay), and would like to keep the price in the lower $200's. Reliability is more important to me than performance. I'm sure some owners have already made that upgrade, and perhaps can say what works for them.
    Appreciate all advice.

If you want to take advantage of your laptop's SATA III speed while ensuring reliability, the best you could get are Crucial M4 (or Micron C400 which is the OEM version), Crucial C300 (the older version of M4), or intel 510. Avoid the sandforce drives if reliability is a concern. I recently installed an intel 510 and have no complaint.

I just order mine too and I am going to do the same thing! Only I am not replacing the disk drive. Let me know what you are thinking of doing so we can work this out together!

Any ssd is going to be miles ahead of the mechanical hd in your xps,I have used Intel and ocz among others. In real world use I didn't see a big difference between the controllers, atleast not in my experience. For reliability Intel has the edge,Imho any ssd you decide on will make you wonder how you ever lived without one.

I decided to go with Crucial M4 128GB. Drive arrived yesterday. The most difficult part was removing the palm rest on the laptop. Before the clean instal of Win7, I decided to upgrade the drive's firmware to 0002. Everything went well and so far I couldn't have been happier. No problems to report at all.
Thank you everyone for the help.
