I have the m1210 and love this little laptop. It can play games (I mostly play Doom 3 and Silent Hunter III) and with the Western Digital 320GB Scorpio drive she screams through start up and opening applications. It actually is faster then my desktop when it comes to HD performance. So how are all you XPS m1210 owner’s liking this little laptop. Also post up your Vista scores. I will post mine when I get home tonight.

Yes its 5400 RPM but the 320GB Scoripo is actualy benched faster then alot of 7200 desktop hard drives. Big difference over the stock drive and like I said it's even faster then my desktop.

Thanks I am looking to put in a bigger harddrive and I didn't know if I should wait to get the 320gb 7200rpm drive or just go for the 320gb 5400rpm drive there seems to be quite a big difference in price.

It's very funny that you posted this as I thought I was the only one STILL choosing a m1210 over the m1330 ! I know that the m1330 is sleeker and faster but it just seems less reliable, meaning, you have to cross your fingers that yours doesn't have a crooked hinge, or CPU whine, or grainy screen, etc etc. I don't mind the added bulk I guess. Anyway, I had a 15% off Dell outlet coupon and looked for the specs that OP (via IM) said I should look for - here are my specs:

    XPS M1210 Laptop: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16GHz/667MHz/4MB) DT165
    Certified Refurbished 3E476
    8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability GU741
12.1 inch WXGA Laptop Screen HJ174
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium NP562
    Microsoft Works 8.5 PN175
120 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM) UK777
    2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs) XD717
    6 Cell Primary Battery XF353
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache XG597
XPS M1210 STD: 1Yr Ltd Warranty and On-site Service

I could have saved a few bucks buying it off of eBay but I like having the FULL 1 year warranty !

Oh, I kinda had hoped it would ship with XP but am willing to give Vista a try! IF not, I know a local kid who could put in XP for me.

I have both a M1210 and M1330. The LED screen is nice on the powerhouse 1330 and the 1210 is for tuning and datalogging my cars.

scupking I was wondering if you noticed a decrease in battery life after installing the new drive? You have sparked my interest, I was going to buy a big external drive because laptop drives are so expensive but it looks like you can get that scorpio drive for around 100 bucks on ebay.

    cobra? :D

I love my M1210. The fan won't stop spinning and I have the stupid squeeling noise but whatever. New 9 cell battery, undervolted CPU, vista battery saver, and underclocked GPU and I can't even pull 4 hours on max brightness. Maybe my expectations are overly high? I do want an LED m1330 though.

Have had mine for over a year, and I still love it. Oddly enough, this past Monday night the processor and/or motherboard fried on it (black screen, no boot up), and after spending a short time on the phone with Dell support they overnighted a new processor and motherboard and the Dell tech came out and replaced it under warranty. Back up and running again by midday Wednesday. Gotta love that kind of service!

Oh, my overall windows score is 3.3. I don't remember what the individual scores are.

I used to have one for work however after numerous problems and replaced parts, Dell replaced it with an m1330.

In hindsight I shouldn't have done it because I much preferred the m1210's size.

I have the M1210. Whenever I change any hardware inside (RAM, Bluetooth Module, Wireless card etc), it will get wierd random display failure if I boot up with AC adapter. It will be cured (by itself) when boot up with battery afterwards.

I agree that a 12" is a better size than a 13" IMHO...the one I ordered from Dell never arrived (they delivered to wrong house) which was fine since I got an even better deal thru this forum ! I immediately swapped out the HD and put in the WD Scorpio one suggested by OP...I felt so darn tech-y ;) Specs are in my sig + over 2 yrs of warranty left :D

:( I have the same problem. The screen doesn't come up. :( :( I'm not under warranty. I think Dell is going to clean my pocket fixing my M1210.
