hi thx for everyone for being helpin always.

as forte told me to run rigorous test to test the gpu temperatures.

today noon i installed COD4 MW. under normal operating condition such as browsing n doin word processing the temperature of ma gpu is 65-70c.

i played COD4 for an hour to test the gpu, my gpu temperature went till 88c with in a 20 minutes of game play n the area around touch pad, wrist area was very hot i cant keep ma wrist over it.

is the tempearature 88c a normal temperature while playing COD4. i stopped the game after an hour, as the temp was goin over 88c. also the game become little slower by playing just for an hour, i guess i have received the faulty gpu.

does buying the cooler helps me solve the temp issue. do the gpu fail if it crosses over 90c, ?
as far i have told earlier, im goin to return the laptop bak to dell, today i have filed online returning, need to wait till monday coz its holiday today n tomorrow.

im also planning to buy 9700gt card which comes with hp 6510b series. i live in india, im worried that if i return ma xps for a new xps series, i don think it solve the heatin issue of gpu.

as far forte told tat its better to stick with xps m1530, what we d expect from dell by returning n getting the same model as far replacement is concerned. thou they replace ma xps with new one, i guess it will have issue with the gpu,? so what d be the right solution for this. going for replacement with the same model, or buying hp series with 9700gt card.

since ma xps m1530 is 12 days old till now, i can get full refund credit. according to the return policy here in india.

is it good to go in for the replacement of the same model?
im really confused. need ur help

    ty everyone

the GPU hardware itself can definitely support temps up to 100+.... but the problem with the GPU is repeated cyling of hot-cool-hot-cool....

i would replace..... 85 is a little high for M1530

If you replace it, you're just gonna get another faulty gpu in return.

At least dell tech support keeps saying (for me and as far as I know for a few others as well) that the new one' are being fixed and they are not being shipped with the faulty ones.

But no one knows for sure because neither the manufacturers or nVidia have come all-out clear regarding this issue. But on hindsight, I would guess, yes, probably they are fixed. It would be a really stupid idea for the manufacturers to be shipping out with faulty one', unless nVidia is still supplying them with one. I guess nVidia has probably rectified the defects and probably started supplying proper cards. But I don't know...

Return it and dont take chances. Its in your best interest.

Your already got a notebook with a BIOS that modifies the fan algorithm to reduce chances of system failure. The BIOS itself changed what the machine used to be, to a fail-safe precaution.

Wait till the next XPS refresh come out with a 9xxx series card. Theres also different brands like Asus and HP

Theyve probably stopped mass production of the 8xxx chips, Nvidia has moved onto the 9xxx and whatevers comming in the future.

And also the Sony FW series, if you prefer taking a look. I saw its quiet nice and its quiet popular among users too. :) Cheers.
