My XPS 16 does not seem to be responding properly to the power options that I have applied. For example, it doesn't go into sleep mode when the lid is closed, as it was selected to do in the power options. The external hinge power light is supposed to pulse in sleep mode, it does not.

Is this controlled by Dell software, Vista software or the Video card?

I'm running formatted Vista with latest Catalyst drivers from ATI site. No Dell software except Quickset.

It is controlled by Vista. If you are on High Performance for example it will not go to sleep unless you make a change to the Multimedia settings. Set it to "allow computer to sleep" when sharing media under advanced Power Options.
