So I just got my M1330 replacement the other day. I tried out the webcam and it worked fine. But then today when I started the webcam console, it couldn't detect the device. So I called XPS Tech Support and they ran me through some diagnostics and I got an error saying that the Microphone board couldn't be detected. When I go into Device Manager, there is no option for an Imaging device either. So they said that the microphone and webcam wires are within the LED cover and there's no way for me to get to it so they could either send me another LED cover which will be a refurbished part or they can transfer me to customer service to get yet ANOTHER replacement. I opted for a replacement cuz I wasn't about to go for a refurbished part on a two day old system. So I'm wondering if others are having the same issue with the webcam. Since the LED panel is so thin and flexible, is it possible for the webcam/microphone wires to disconnect so easily?

Oh another question. Why is it when you set up a replacement they can't give you an order number right away? You have to wait 2-3 days before they can get one for you.

Oh and an odd question I was asked by the CSR when she was putting the replacement request in, she asked if my battery had problems recharging. I asked if that was a known issue and she said she was only asking  The battery had nothing to do with the webcam issue so I don't know where she was going with that.

you seem to be missing the drivers for your webcam and microphone array. perhaps they got screwed up somehow.

if you go to the dell website, you should be able to download and install them. just enter your express service tag and it should bring you somewhere you can download the right drivers.

    HI,

my motherboard died and got it replaced together with the keyboard, base and lid cover. Ended up with no web cam. When I boot and the notebook is on power I'm getting strange errors that my microphone board has not been detected. And also that there is something wrong with my AC adapter and my battery can't be charged. When i ignored that I ended up with no sound in vista. When I booted when on battery I'm getting sound but still no web cam.... But it must be something serious because I'm getting those error messages in BIOS.hmmm

Any suggestions or infos that would help or do I have to get another technician to take apart my my notebook again?

I don't know if this would apply but a common problem many have is, when they do a clean install, they forget to insert and reinstall the webcam software from the webcam disk provided. Even though you download plenty of webcam updates, that disk is needed to get the webcam running.

As for the order number, it cannot be given right away (anymore) because they input the order and it must be approved at which time the order is spit out at the end of the working day. Alot of times, if you look at your 'My Orders' link in your Dell web page, the new order will appear around 5ish the same day the order was taken.

When I got my motherboard replaced, the webcam wasn't plugged in correctly and didn't work. Apparently there was something wrong with the plug or w/e she said that prevented it from completely connecting with the motherboard. She fixed it in 10 minutes with really small tweezers.
