I noticed quite a bit of noise on my 1340. This is the 2MP camera and I had used recently a M1330 with 2MP and I do not remember any noise.

Is this normal for noise on a 2MP camera on 1340?
I have attached a picture where I covered the lens so you can see the noise on the black background.

Also what does it take to change the camera? Is it embeded with the scree and is the screen also changed with it?

I understand the camera is not very good but should not have noise. I do not remember seeing noise on M1330 so it should not be on 1340 as they use the same camera/lens.

Can anyone do me a favor and check their webcam on their 1340?
Put your thumb to cover the camera lens and see if you see the same amount of noise as I per the posted pic on the first post.
    Please let me know.
    thanks!

No noise on my one (1.3MP camera). I took a second pic with my hand in it lol just to make sure the screen print was actually capturing it.

It has to do with the size of the sensor. Paper_Wastage is indeed right about that. You will have a ton of noise in darkness as the sensor is extremely small and it must turn up the sensitivity to attempt to pull in enough light thereby causing noise. Generally the higher the ISO sensitivity the more noise, that is assuming a video camera functions the same as a standard still camera. Higher end models have "Noise Reduction", this would not be practical on our tiny little webcams.

Your picture showing your hand does show noise on the hand itself. The black picture however doesn't. I would assume the difference is almost entirely software settings. Yours appears to do a better job at turning down the sensitivity when the camera doesnt see anything at higher levels.

Thanks guys but I noticed this noise during normal operation. I did not notice this noise on the M1330 that I had to send back becasue of other issues and that has the same 2MP camera.

To make sure it can be easily seen I put my thumb on it to make is dark. I do not agree that the sensor trying to compensate for low light and results in noise since I can notice it in normal operation as well but it is not that obvious.

BTW, picture does not do justice in the first post as there is more noise then can be seen in the picture.

You may have gotten a bad webcam, just like anything else there will always be some defective ones that pass QC
