I read others have this problem and wondered if someone found a solution or just commiserate I guess.

Got a new XPS 1530 (June) with 3gb of memory and a T8300 processor. Frame rate on webcam is horrible. I recorded at 640x480 and played it back.

What a disappointment even over store bought $50 webcams.

Played it back and blurry when I moved, no syncing of audio with mouth. Perhaps that is the way I look to others (hope not).

    Any solution to this?

    Thanks so much
    Peter

What program did you use? Also how was the ambient lighting when it was recording?

Lighting not that great but I can turn it toward sun and turn on more lights...
    Will try it.
    Thanks,
    Peter

I just tried it on my brand new XPS 1530 and it worked amazingyl well. I even tried recording it at 1600 x 1200 - didn't think it would work but it did

So true. Someone said to try it in better/strong light. Have you tried it yet?

Also do you have Media Direct? Found out (Dell Support) that if you have a password in Vista (or more than 1 account) it will prompt and not play CD/DVD's directly without booting into VISTA.

I have scoured all the forums on the net and still could not find a solution to the motion blur problem. I have a brand new XPS M1730 with built in 2.0 MP webcam, having this problem.

    1. It is not lighting. A colleague of mine has the M1530 with build in webcam. I put his laptop right next to mine (same lighting quality) and his video is excellent with no motion blur.
    2. No, there is no plastic covering my webcam
    3. Resolution does not help. (My colleagues webcam runs at 1024 with no blurring. Mine blurs at 320)
    4. One (critical?) difference is the 1730 has vista ultimate and the 1530 has xp pro

Considering that my 1730 cost double the price of the 1530, I feel cheated.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

I have the same problem - max frame rate is about 10!!
    So currently its totally useless.

I personally think that there's a setting somewhere - like night mode effect or something that force's the computer to try and make dark pictures seem bright.

Whenever I use it in a really bright area like outside in the sunshine - I get high Fps (well like 15-20, still pretty useless) but when I go indoors it drops back to around 10.

Its kind of like the camera on my phone - with night mode on I get horrible frame rates in dark places but when I go into bright areas I get high frame rates.

Thats the only conclusion I can make, as I have updated to the newest driver for it.

I suspect it is Vista. Anyone in the mood to install XP to see if this fixes the problem? :D. Would have done this myself if I didn't use my NB for work.

My XPS 1730 does it as well. I can only get 8 FPS at best no mater what the conditions or resolution.
