So... I'm so close to order a XPS 16. But there is a dilemma. Dell only offer the 1080p (WUXGA+) screen(s) in the country I am in. I am planning to get the 15.6'' one. But I am afraid the high resolution will make everything too small on the screen.

I think I will have to find a place where I can have a look on a notebook with that screen, and see if I can handle it. Right now I am very sceptical. I just can't believe that Dell do not offer the 720p screen when I am finally ready to take the plunge.

Is there anyone here that can actually use WUXGA+ on 15.6-16'' without having to resort to changing DPI, font size or zooming?

I think it is all personal preference. If you have a local store where you can compare the screen resolutions this would be your best bet and I recommend that you do this BEFORE you make any orders.

Dell recently sent me a xps16 with the 1366*768 resolution and I absolutely hated it. I am coming from a 17inch laptop which had a resolutions of 1920*1200 so I am very used to the small font and actually prefer it due to the extra windows you can fit on the screen. I now have the xps16 inch screen with the 1920*1080 resolution and this is perfect for me.

Yes the font is small but it is no smaller on the 16inch screen than it was on my old 17inch screen so if you can find a store with any laptop with a 1920*1080 resolution I believe that would be your best bet to see if you can tolerate it.

Also, I know here in the US, a lot of times Dell will remove options from laptops, e.g. screen resolutions, just to bring them back a couple days, weeks, months later. So you may get lucky and your desired resolution screen my pop up as an option. Again this is in the US. It could be different for you.

I have the 1080p screen and have absolutely no problem viewing any text. All you have to do is change the DPI (control panel-display) and the font size in Firefox. Like the link above me shows you can make the text very easy to read. I would go with the 1080p screen.

The screen is much better than the 720p screen. Also I do not have any problems with the text that is a little small. Even Photohopping goes great :)

Take my advice, and get the 1080p screen ;)

I just had a look at one 16'' 1080p screen at a shopping mall. It looked really sharp, and didn't seem too small. But I forgot to check the DPI settings, that's a bummer. :( Maybe they had changed it to 120.

Anyways, I think I know what you 1080p guys mean. The sharpness of everything on the screen is really a plus. I could probably see myself get used to it.

It's the same here. That's what actually is so annoying. They change their options all the time. You don't know if you should wait a week or two, or if you do that, they bring back the 720p screen but remove something else (or increase price). I really don't like the inconsistency that Dell have.
