I've never seen one, but I think it will be pretty much ownage. It doesn't get any higher def in the consumer electronic world (except maybe on some cellphones). Heck, WUXGA on a 17" blew me away, so just imagine my reaction when I see it on a 15"...

I have no complaints. Plenty of room to open several windows. If the lettering is too small you could always make it a little bigger. Love my screen!

I agree 100%. I am actually doing the resolution change *RIGHT NOW* on my XPS 1530. I have the WUXGA screen (1920x1600) with the nVidia 8600GT and have dropped the resolution to 1440x900 as a test for the afternoon. Completely usable. Yes, things are fuzzy (maybe), but I can barely tell. The 1920x1600 screen resolution at 15.4" has such a small dot pitch (149 dpi) that you can barely tell. Unless you are absolutely anal about having spot on totally photographic perfect graphics, you would be *INSANE* in my opinion to pass up the WUXGA option (never mind the LED vs non-LED debate, that is something else entirely) based on screen size. My eyesight is not the best and if I need a larger icon/text size, 1440x900 is completely usable to me. With WUXGA I get the best of both worlds. Huge desktop landscape at 1920x1600 if I need it and larger text and icon sizes at 1440x900 if I need that. Attached is screen shot of part of the desktop using this "altered resolution".

Note that this is on Vista 32bit which may have better "usage" of the nVidia driver than XP would have. I doubt but wanted to point that difference out "just in case" it mattered to anyone.

The text is not as small as I expected. I love having all the extra desktop space, and if you are a multi-tasker you will too. When I use my desktop which has a 20" 1680x1050 LCD hooked up to it as the main display, I miss having the extra screen real estate that the 1920x1200 LCD offers.

I own an XPS Gen 1 and loved the 1920x1200 in the 15" form factor, and that screen is old school technology (not nearly as bright or high of contrast).

When I upgraded from that heavy beast, I was convinced that 1680 x 1050 wouldn't be bad... I really wanted the 15" form factor and it was during a time period that it was difficult to get WUXGA in a 15" with a gaming vid card. I settled for an HP NC8430. Almost immediately regretted it, it was a fantastic laptop, but sorely missed the extra desktop space.

About 12 months later I bought a 1720 because I desperately wanted the WUXGA and 15" WUXGA was still hard to come by unless you wanted to spend a lot or conceed to a non-gaming vid card.

I ordered my 1520 about a month ago and am very much looking forward to receiving it hopefully this week.

In conclusion, the XPS Gen 1 with the 15" WUXGA screen I loved. The 15" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen always seemed to be missing the space. The 1720 was a welcome return to WUXGA in my laptop, but just too big for my lap.

(I am selling the HP NC8430 and XPS Gen 1, if anyone is interested PM me. The 1720 is sold.)

PS: I am writing this from a m1330 1280 x 800 LED ... I LOVE IT ... I wish I could get it in higher res and LED screen, but the 13" form factor and LED screen certainly has it's perks.

I have good vision; I think my dream machine would be a 13-14" laptop with a WUXGA system and an 8600m -- but that is just a dream.

Not to mention - people go nuts (especially the snobby Macbook Pro Owners) when they see the resolution of your screen - that counts for something.
