I'm able to buy an XPS 13 Sandy Bridge for $700. Considering the 1080p IB model costs $1000, this is a pretty good deal. Both have 128 GB storage.

Aside from the screen and processor, is there any other difference between the two? How much battery should I expect from the SB vs the IB?

Also, if I buy a 1080p screen as a component, can I replace it myself, or will I need additional cables, etc?

It seems like a viable option for me...

Or am I better off getting an open box IB 1080p for $1000 with almost a year of warranty?

    Thanks!

Now there's one available for $580. Seems like a steal if I can replace the screen for another $100.

    Would I be able to?

No, not possible. The panel is sealed in, you will have to replace whole hinge-up compoent to get 1080p.
