    Two things,

    1. The 8800M GTX is down from $2K as was being quoted over the phone by Dell Spare Parts. They now list it at $1K here:

    http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=dhs&c=us&l=en&cs=19&k=8800M+GTX&cat=all

    2. The Direct2Dell bloggers swear that an upgrade program is coming out for 1730 users to the SLI 8800M GTX. It was 'supposed to be out by the end of May' but that kept getting pushed back, obviously. Last word from a few days ago was that it should be very very soon. You can keep track here:

    Peace.

Sounds like the M1730 is not gonna be replaced anytime soon. Looks like the XPS series won't be replaced for some time, perhaps October.

Yeah I doubt they are doing away with XPS anytime soon.

I really don't think there's enough competition between XPS and AW to justify that. Both have their niche buyers.

I do not see the price being less than $899 for the upgrade but you never know.

The XPS series isn't going away. The XPS gaming line is. That would affect the M1730 and the desktop XPS gaming systems. I don't think the XPS M1730 will be going away any time soon though. It might go through a 2 year life cycle and then be retired in favor of Alienware. Dell has a lot of work ahead of them to get Alienware support up to the level that Dell provides.

Well, Dell offers dual 8800M GTX Sli for $1,219 with installation now. It ships in 5-7 days. I wonder what would the difference regarding warranty be when self installed or installed by dell approved tech. Does anyone know what kind o warranty this "part" carry?
