    Hey guys,

Would like to know where I can find a cheap 1080p that is equivalent to the one given by dell. (Suppose to be really bright and the colors good) I have the l502x already but cheaped out and didnt get the upgraded screen. So where can i buy the good one?

Also i hear there is an matte version of it, what is the difference between them besides anti glare. Which one is better?

Hi guys just joined cause of your thread.
So can someone lay down the info to get my 720p LCD screen changed.

Just the tried and tested cream of the crop info please, because I too made the dreadful mistake of settling for a 720p screen on my L502x.

    Anyone help a brother out?

v7 is glossy... v4 is matte. V7 has a little bit better color gamut.

Looking at the prices of the FHD screens it might be cheaper to sell your laptop and order new xps with upgraded screen.

I'm trying to get hold of a genuine AUO B156HW01 v7 too, but it seems next to impossible... especially in the UK. Beware, every listing I've found on eBay will say in the small print that they may ship a compatible... and theres no 'maybe' about it. The V73D3 cable's about double the US$ prices too

Even kuzotronic's not listing the v7 anymore... so if so many people were swapping their FHDs from gloss (v7) to matte (v4), where'd all the leftover gloss ones go? grrr

I got a message from Lee from Kuzotronic, he's done wonders for a lot of people on this forum getting replacement screens imported, but he's confirmed the AUO v4 and v7 were discontinued halfway through 2011...

After a few honest e-mails from ebayers, anyone that is offering a v7 is going to send a v0, but as some will know it's WLED, not B+RG, so the colour gamut's only 60%. I'm assuming most of the v4s being offered are actually v3s.

I'm going to have to scout about for an alternative... I wonder if there are any other makes of panel at the same sepc that might actually work.., otherwise it's a v0 for me.

Damn the posts system! Are you in the UK Cri-cri... and has the fact that I've mentioned they've stopped making them increased the price to include internal organs? lol

I'm not from/in the UK, I'm in Italy right now but I'll move to Brussel next week-end (job requires me to be present there Monday morning).
:) Send me a message once you have access to the PM system and we'll come to a price so that we both keep our kidneys where they are.

If the AUO v.7 and v.4 are both out of production from Q2 2011, it would be interesting to know if either Dell have a stockpile, or if they've switched to an alternative manufacturer in the newest models.

I keep expecting to see someone post that they've opened their new XPS and discovered a completely different screen to the v.7. There was talk of a compatible LG screen, but it was WLED instead of B+RG, which loses the 95% gamut...

As for ebay, I haven't seen a single genuine listing or v4 or v7 - the fine print ALWAYS states that 'if stock is unavailable, a compatible screen will be shipped', which is just an almighty get-out clause. It appears they're shipping v0 (for the v7) and v3 (for the v4) as compatible parts - same screens but only 60% gamut.

Now thats strange... so then, the source that told me they're out of production is either wrong, or else there are lot more of them stockpiled about.

OK, bit of calling around later, and it looks like HW01s are still in production, just not part of the current line AUO are pushing to developers.

For a US/Can site claiming to be selling genuine parts, your prices seems too good to be true... and you know what they say about that! (seriously, they're 1/3 of the price - very tempted to take a gamble though!)

LSB - Your B156HW01 v4 may be genuine, and reasonably priced, but since I'm looking for v7 I'm not filled with confidence. You have the v7 in both matte and gloss at rediculously low prices, but genuine v7s were only ever produced in gloss.

    I guess the hunt continues.

    We're Canadian :D

    Edit:

Yeah, only the V.4 is the exact model. V.7 will be a compatible model. Do you gather the V.7 is a hot item?
We've ordered a solid stock of V.4 because that's what it seems lots of people are looking for. Personally I hate glossy screens.
But I shall look into the Glossy ones for you.

Is a matte screen or glossy screen better for gaming?

Is a 75% gamut sufficient, or should I upgrade to the 95%?

    I think 3 24" 1080p 120Hz monitors connected to triple-sli GTX 580 is better for gaming.

Surface finish of the LCD is your personal preference. I usually prefer matte,
although my MacBook's glass is OK too (just not in direct sunlight).

Gamut is most important for graphics design, typically for gaming you won't notice much difference between 70% and 97.5%,
unless you compare both screens at the same time. The colors on the 97.5% are unnaturally vivid.
