    Hello fellow xps 17 owners!

I just got a xps 1702x (black friday special at jr), love everything, but I want to upgrade the screen from the 1600x900 to either the Full HD 1080p screen or perhaps the 3d one.

Any gotcha's? I've done plenty of LCD swaps, I know the cable can sometimes be the sticky widget.

Can I do a straight swap from the 900p panel to the 1080p panel? (without a cable upgrade).

My model is the 1gb GT550 with 2 memory slots (man I wish it had 4).

I will continue to research, this is my first time on this board (member of so many others, big android and hackintosher here).

thank you, after posting this I decided to just pop the screen out to check the part number, googled it, its a 40pin, most screens I'm seeing are 40pin, the 3d one is 50 pin.

Also IC most are recommending the AU over the LG..

So I'm searching around for one.

Thanks for the links I'm reading them now!

Let us know what you found out. I got the same computer from jr's and hate this 1600x900 crap. Wish I would have just spent a few more bucks for the 1080p and GeForce 555m. My screen is messed up too so I'm debating returning for a refund and dishing out the extra.

If you have the extra cash it's worth the upgrade IMO. The 555 is a decent GPU that OC's well with MSI's Afterburner. I don't plan on getting a new laptop until 2013 at this point. I'm very happy with my XPS.

It is most definitely doable, not the 3d screen but moving up to the Full HD 1920x1080 screen looks to be a piece of cake, I've already had the lcd bezel off, it's not going to be a problem.

Stock cable is 40 pin, all the panels I've seen are 40 pin. The quick reads I've done say that the AU Optronics B173HW01 V.4, is better than the LG.

    Found it here for $99
B173HW01 V.4 REVIEW AT LAPTOPSCREEN.COM - replacement Laptop LCD Screen $99.99 Brand-new screens (never used).

Anyone know if this site/company if reputable?

Not to toot my own horn but I was one of the originators of swapping the 15.4" MBP 1440x900 screen with an 1920x1200 panel over 4 years ago, that thread is still going and I get occasional email updates on it, it required a one time "injection" on the new panel into EFI (using a hackintosh ATI graphics enabler), but man that res on that small a screen got tough on the eyes, hence 17"! :)

Please PM me before ordering from LaptopScreen.com,

LaptopScreen.com caters to replacements - so you will receive a working panel, but the model will not be guaranteed.
For your purposes LaptopScreen has an LG LP173WF1 (TL)(B3)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/622600-g73jh-bst7-display-aou139e.html

We do not have B173HW01 V.4, we have B173HW01 V.0, which is different optical specs (worse)

Anyways, PM me for all details and to prepare your order to make sure you get the specific panel.

If you are asking what the terminology is, Full HD = 1920x1080

1600x900 is Like HD + or sometihng...

I haven't purchased my Panel yet, but I've had it apart (a few times), its a 40 pin cable, and those support up to Full HD, (check specs when searching), its the 3d panel that requires a 50 pin cable, and compatible GPU, from what I understand that is the Nvidia 555GT (not 550).
