I've looked over and over at the sXPS 13 vs sXPS 16 and I'd LOVE a smaller laptop to take to class....but the features on the sXPS 13 hurt me. 1280x800 resolution is the main problem I have...I can't stand those small resolutions. If it was 1440x900 I would be happy, but not 12.8x8. The sound quality looks much better on the sXPS 16 along with the graphics card.

Coming from a Inspiron 1520 /w 8600M GT, I don't want to downgrade my gaming performance.

What I am concerned over is the "size" in comparison to what I have. Will I feel like its a monster size in comparison?

Anybody here move from the Inspiron 1520 to a sXPS 16?

From what I've heard, it doesn't seem dramatically worse than most 15" laptops. I've been curious about the same things though (primarily is a ~3" difference worth the loss of a 1080p monitor, Core i7 CPU, and Radeon 4670.

That said, the SXPS 13 now has the GeForce G210m w/ 512MB of GDDR3 RAM which I would expect to offer comparable performance.

agree, even 3670 works awesome with hardcore games.

I'm in this same conflict. I REALLY want the 13" size but I've currently got a 17" Asus G2S gaming laptop thats left a sour taste in my mouth in terms of portability. I love the asus, but its just so big and clunky. Currently I'm really only playing WoW and L4D. I got a buddy with the 256mb 9500 in his 13" and he's able to play both games "Just fine". I'm going to go by and see it to believe though.

Both will be able to do what I am doing right now, but the 16 would be able to play some more demanding games later on.

How does the XPS13 do on games like Cysis on lower settings? I mean if it can run it playable (playable meaning "enjoyable fps") on lower settings then I suppose i would be totally happy.

I would be fine over taking the G210m...but I'm so picky over resolutions I think the 1280x800 resolution will bug the hell out of me.
I don't know....anybody here find the resolution is too small or is it ok?

I thought the same thing and now as an owner of one, still do to a degree with that mindset :D. This is one of the main things (along with Core i7 CPUs) that makes me want to go with an SXPS 16 (I may end up giving my current unit to a relative or buying one of those for them instead).

I've been using my m1210 for three years now at 1280x800. It was my first laptop, and at first it bugged me. But I'm completely used to it now--in particular I've learned lots of tricks for optimizing screen space, especially vertically.

I really do wish the sXPS 13 came in a 1440x900 variety (I have one on order, with the 210m, due 10/22) but it'll be alright. Especially with the soaring popularity of netbooks, most applications are going to fit just fine in 1280 resolution.

Keep in mind that video linked on the first page is being run at 1366x768 resolution- you won't get those settings if you have the 1080p screen. You can run it at a lower resolution, but the effects will look sloppier.

Have you ever used a 1280x800 13" laptop? You may find that it's the ideal res for that screen size
