    Hi,

Just received a new XPS Studio 13 purchased as a single customer (rather than through business channels)... having issues with the WWAN 5530 which I got on the presumption that it would be unlocked. Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager says it is "unactivated HSPA". Have tried activating it via vodafone, but their computers are down today!
    - Am I able to activate it without the help of Vodafone?
    - Is it locked to the Vodafone network?
    - If not, how do I import my 3mobile profile? My external (USB) modem (Huawei E220) lists only a number for the modem to dial - no username/password, which I assume is substituted for, by having a SIM for authentification. However, in the absence of being able to access the WWAN 5530 to insert the 3mobile SIM, does anyone know how to derive a username/password for input into DCP?
'Phoned Dell Support, and they were clueless.
    Any guidance appreciated!

I have no idea on how to connect up HSPA, but cant you just insert your 3mobile sim into the sim slot that is behind the battery pack (need to remove the battery pack to access the sim slot).

I don't think it's locked to any network, mine wasn't but it could be different in the UK. If you try to use another carrier you might have to contact them to make the SIM-card work in your laptop, i had a problem where it said "Inactive sim" with a card that was should be active, but suppose to be used in a USB modem. I just e-mailed my carrier and the they converted my card shortly after.

    GENIUS...

I just saw the unactivated HSPA message, freaked, and didn't even look to where the SIM slot was. Makes sense, working like an ordinary mobile 'phone.

Although I feel like a dufus, I feel like Dell Technical Support are equally so!

Dell ConnectionPoint (stopped recognising the modem) didn't like it, but Wireless Manager (R198215) works like a dream.

    Thanks!
