It's just as the title states, I downloaded a new image from MSDN that has Windows 7 with SP1 built in and it shows the "Hit any key to boot using CD" with the dots after it for about 2 seconds and then just boots Windows off the HDD. When I did manage to hit the key at the exact instant it needed to the only options I had were to load Windows 7 or run the memory diagnostic.

    Info:
    - burned the image using Nero with verification
    - boot settings to go with DVD first and HDD last
    - currently have the Windows 7 image from MSDN installed
    - tried both of these images:
    en_windows_7_ultimate_n_with_sp1_x64_dvd_619212
    en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x64_dvd_618240
    - bios is A06

I already have installed an image and booted off the DVD so I have no idea why the laptop won't boot from that now? Nothings changed that I'm aware of. Has anyone else had this problem?

Did you download an .iso file? or just extract the files and use Nero to create a bootable dvd?

If you did the latter, you need to use the win 7 boot image.

It also possible the download was corrupt, did you check the hash?

Is the disc scratched up? Have you tried that disc on another known working machine?

Yes, a fresh clean install on the Vertex 2 Pro I installed. I did the install over Christmas and it worked great the first time, no issues. Also, I did a clean install a month ago and no problems.

I downloaded the two .iso files from Technet directly. Not 100% sure how to check the hash but I didn't receive any errors downloading and haven't received issues before.

The DVD isn't scratched, a year old but brand new condition. I've tried 5 different combination of iso's and dvds. I'm gonna try the latest dvd on a different computer tomorrow.

Well I completely deleted the previous two images and re-downloaded the Ultimate N iso again but got the same issue: 1 second of the boot from dvd dots and then going to the load windows option or memory test option. I also tried unplugging the laptop, taking out the battery and holding down the power button to remove all charges and boot it up fresh again, still same issue.

Gonna try two things tomorrow with a different computer:

    1) Booting with latest burned DVD.
    2) Creating new burned DVD with different burner/computer.

Hopefully I can figure this out as it sure is annoying.

    1) Confirmed DVD's I burned on the dell works on another computer perfectly fine. I get five .'s after the "Press any key to boot from CD" while on the Dell I get part of one and that screen flashes for a second.

    2) Tried seperate DVD that works fine on a different computer and I get the same screen as above.

This leads me to believe the DVD's are correct so the problem is either with the Dell Bios or somehow the Vertex SSD I installed is interfering with the bot process but this makes no sense as when booting from DVD it shouldn't even go to that screen.

I had previously not formatted my original 500 GB HDD that was shipped with the Dell and had it in a USB 3 enclosure so I tried booting from that but it's not even recognized.

I was going to take the SSD out and format it using a different computer but the screwdrivers I had didn't work on the small screws in the back. I'll have to try it this week. This is getting quite annoying.
