Hello, I wiped my XPS clean the minute it got here, installed a 64bit Windows Vista Ultimate and 64 bit Ubuntu.
However, when I tried to reinstall the Trend Micro Internet Security ( I got 15 month subscription with the XPS) it automatically registers a key that it claims to be a trial, with only 30 days....i have done everything from reinstalling to contacting dell and trend micro for help...one refers to the other, and I get nowhere...I'm still waiting for another response form trend micro, but my hopes are slim.

I was wondering how you people managed to reinstall it...since I can't find a serial printed out anywhere, I am at a loss as to how they expect us to reinstall the antivirus.

Thanks for any advice here...the solution is probably very simple, but I am at a loss :/

I got a brand new copy of TMAV 2008 as a freebie that I'm never gonna use.. Ill hook you up with the serial if you cant get this resolved.

EDIT: Disregard, you are using TMIS. Apparently I don't read well. But still let me know if you need it.

I am sure dell must be using a pre activated version of TMIS. Since you have formatted your system there is no way to recover the keyfile.
I think you should call dell technical support and ask them to provide you with a key.
If you are under the 21 day period, then you can even send the comp back and start afresh.
Also, try contacting trend and asking them. I once had such an issue with mcafee and they sent me a new key to use

I will advise you to look for a better free av than avira.
Avira has major update issues and sometimes refuses to update for over a week. They have a limited number of update servers for free users.
IMO, an antivirus is effective only when it is constantly updated.
Take a look at avast, it has got a lot of modules which avira lacks. Detection is decent enough and updates are super quick

I've been using avira for a while now and have never had a problem with it updating. Everyday like clockwork, it runs its updates and all is well. The only negative I have found is the ad that pops up selling the pro version upon update. But even that isnt a problem really, as they are giving you an awesome product for free.

That window can be blocked easily
I used avira for over 6 months. Whenever there was a major update, it used to take around 10 days for things to go back to normal. The last major update was 1 month ago.
Avira is a nice program, no doubt, and is actually lighter than avast.
However, the problem with updating forced me to switch to a more reliable av. Also, avira used to pick almost all pe compressed files as heuristic viruses and had a few false positives.
AVG free is also good, from what I have read, but I haven't used it in over 4 years.
Avira Classic has one major thing lacking, the http scanner. It is very important in preventing viruses being downloaded from sites.
I have avira and avast installed on my machine right now, but Avira is a backup scanner. Avast is the resident module
