I have pretty much decided on the XPS 1530. The price is good right now, and the last time I checked Dell still offered one year no interest to pay for it. Since I am stretching dollars really far, was wondering if I would be sorry if I wait until around Black Friday, or even closer to Christmas, in hopes of an even more spectacular deal. What I would have a real about is if the price goes up. My only other notebook I am serious about is the Asus M50V, but I don't think it is going on any special sale anytime soon.

If it's within your budget, I say go for it. I took advantage of a fall deal and saved over $600. Sure it took about 3-4 weeks to receive my XPS M1530, but it is worth the wait. I made the move from a MAC G4 desktop to this machine and I couldn't be happier. I'm a graphic designer and this machine is more than capable of handling the memory intensive software.

I highly recommend you make the upgrade to an LED Screen (incredible), and a 7200rpm hard drive. Make a call to Dell when ordering, they will expidite your order.

enjoy your new laptop and stay away from the unboxing videos on u-tube: it will drive you crazy in anticipation.

    Hey there!

If you can get it at a great price, and really want it, then why not order now???
It's an awesome lappy, trust me when I say that! It's my first lappy and I love it! ;) :)

If you want to wait, and chance until Black Friday...you can also do that!

The thing is, that the Dell Deals are *ever-changing* One week a great deal..the next, perhaps not so great...And, *ever-changing* is the same for technology, if not more! There are changes happening with the XPS Line..so you never really know what November, may bring! ;)

Oh, Dell usually offers the 1 Year Interest Free on the XPS line!!! They will give a *expiration date* on that...and then soon after, it's back again.

Good luck to you, in your choice..I hope this info helped you.

    Cin ;) :)

Thanks to both these replies. Indeed this has helped. Cin when you get a chance can you check the Dell website and tell me please if you think this current deal is a good one, or just average one at this time.
edrian, I didn't notice the screen option. Is that something you almost have to call and ask for? It could be I just didn't notice it the first I ran through the options list.
Thanks again to everyone for all the help, AND, the patience. I have been wrestling with this decision for several months, continuing to go back and forth between these two lappies.
I was extremely impressed with the 1330 I saw in BestBuy last week, except of course for screen size. My eyes need a bigger screen, with not too high resolution since I need icons, etc. bigger. The other thing I was shocked about was the dreadfully slow response at BB, however, now I think it was due to a lot of BB bloatware Plus I think it was the 5750 they had for their CPU.

Eventhough I had already placed my order I kept going back to the Dell website just to play around with other deals and configurations. I did notice that on certain deals, certain items that I had upgraded to where not options. What I recommend is placing the order over the phone and asking about upgrading to the LED Screen. It is not only brighter and thinner, but saves on battery life. Speaking of battery life...This power machine likes to drink it up, but it does recharge rather quickly. As far as the screen...It is a 1440x900 resolution. I was concerned about not having enough space on my desktop, but I have never felt like I needed more. Great machine.

Hope this helps. Those sales reps are always willing to help you out if you call, they work on commission.

It would be helpful to know which Dell website you are using, i.e., "Home" or "USA Member Purchase Program" (employee or business affiliate" or another portal. For example, my employer is a Dell customer which entitles a discount of sorts to employees (not always better than "Home"). Also, if you are located in USA and have a AAA membership, you can enter the "Member" website through a link provided by AAA email and apply an add'l 6% discount upon cart checkout. Also, there is a way to obtain another 4% on checkout by choosing payment other than by Dell Preferred Account (DPA), then selecting DPA with a 4% add'l discount applied. I also agree that you can call Dell "live" and negotiate more bundled discounts. Be sure to be ready with all your specs, prices and discount eligibility to speed things up. I suspect there are incentives for Dell sales associates to "close the deal". Be patient as they put you on hold while they get permission to discount. I'm quite satisfied by the total performance package I got (more than I really need) for the price I paid (see separate thread). My 40 years of industrial procurement background has taught me to apply negotiating skills to personal major purchases! (hey, I said I was a Boomer ;) )

Thanks very much. I didn't know there was more than just the Dell Home site, of the DPC route. I will check on that again. When I call I will try to apply eveything I can think of, with all my specs, and then see if they can do it for what I consider my to be my target price. I am hoping that with the economy being so squeaky tight that they will be more open to some negoiating. BTW: I was looking at procurement as one of my career change options, although right now is a tough time for career changes. Want to switch from local government which is going through serious cuts, and try to get into Federal work. Neither are high paying jobs, but at least with federal there is more room for advancement hopefully.

I really appreciate everyone being so willing to assist with ideas and suggestions. Soon I should start being able to help answer other people's questions too. ;)

I just sent you a PM with details on my "deal" - hope it helps! This is Notebook Review, not career guidance forum, so I'll send you another PM with my thoughts on that subject.
