They were in the high 80's low 90 yesterday, now there higher. I'm thinking of calling dell up, but the motherboard was just replaced (card reader problem). Should I ask for an upgrade to the 1640? or what I've had many problems with my M1530... So What should I do?

Call Dell. Have they replaced the GPU or CPU? Just the motherboard right? Perhaps the tech botched the reassembly. Perhaps he didnt bother with the Dell Thermal Pad. Several things could be going on. If you are still covered by your warranty, I would demand they come out again.

Those temps are high in my opinion. You might want to hit up other M1530 owners to get a base line for temps.

Possibly just a warmer day today?

If you haven't done anything to the laptop between yesterday and today, the temps really shouldn't be rising. If the Dell techs botched your motherboard swap, you should have been seeing the higher temps from day one. That being said, they are higher than normal, but not yet something about which to worry.

I'd wait a day or two and see what happens. If they keep rising, you should probably contact Dell. If not, I think you should be fine.

I assume these are idle temps. What're your load temps?

Those temps are perfectly fine. Dell is rightly not going to bother.

    Yep.

Normal temps with 8600M GT DDR3 are up to 88 degrees. If you overclock / use modified drivers / block the vents - then it can rise up to 98 degrees, while still being on the safe side. If it gets higher than that, it'll be dangerous.

You may have a faulty 8600m GT GPU that was affected by the whole Nvidia Fiasco.

Max CPU temps are too high. Should've only maxed out at around 60~70C. GPU is in normal range though. Might just want to tell Dell about that spike in CPU temps though.

Your temps are too high, by far.

In the M1530, basically, I would not want to see the CPU temps above 75C, and the GPU above 85C. Okay, so 1 or 2 deg higher is no problem, but they are my comfortable max temps and I would not want to see higher. If they start going higher than those temps, that is when I start to monitor the situation very carefully.

(mine are lower than those examples because I undervolt a little. But still, with no undervolt I would not want them higher than the above values).

So you are way higher than the comfort zone, you should call Dell immediately. The only thing you should do before calling them is clean the system of dust. Make sure to clean the intakes, the fan blades, the exhaust vent, and also the individal vanes in the heat-exchanger. Most of those can be cleaned with compressed air, although sometimes I use maybe a q-tip to clean the fan blades.

If that doesnt work, let Dell fix it.

I agree with V__C, those temps are not within the safe range or "confort zone" lol

If none of his recommendations work, tell dell to change your mobo and heatsink again, because those temperatures are simply not acceptable :p

now in my experience, the application of thermal paste can be most of the problem, if the tech didnt apply it correctly or didn't tighten the screws enough the heat will not transfer correctly, thus leading to overheating...

Sadly, its hard for a Dell tech to screw it up - when I had issues with my failing M1710, they all used thermal pads. I dont believe Dell uses thermal goop like we would all hope for (Arctic Silver, etc.). They just have these OEM pads. Sad.

well i talk by experience, the 2 times they have replaced my mobo they have manually applied the thermal paste, and actually one of those times, i had to remind the tech to do so, if not he would have put the heatsink in without any thermal paste!... ...
