Hey guys, I tried running orthos and the CPU of the T9300 spikes to about 80C in about a few seconds and then I exit immediately and the temp drops back down to about 45C pretty quickly. Anyone experiencing this. I am using CPUID Hardware Monitor.

    whats your notebook model
if its an m1330, you have a cooling problem.

try suggestion of others (follow the guides)
    1. copper mod (if you dare) - voids the warranty
    2. undervolt
    3. upgrade to bios A11 upgrade to latest nvidia drivers (yes gpu and cpu has an effect with each other as they are sharing the same heat pipe and fan.

Yeah its an M1330. What are other people getting as their temps on Penryns under load?

Pretty normal.. :D I have had automatic shutdowns with an X9000 when running orthos..with temps easily above 90*C. :D

If the CPU has a sub-50*C idle temp, then its normal..!!

Or check out The Undervolting Guide and The NBR Cooling Central.... :)

Are you sure this is an okay temperature to reach? 80C seems so high and it might even reach 90C. Would there be any damage at all to the cores if it reached 90C?

No not at all, CPUs can handle temps just above 100*C, but at about 90-95+, the BIOS normally shuts down the computer..!!

And you necessarily don't need to torture your notebook everyday with Orthos..!! :D

I only ran it once or twice, when I upgraded to the X9000, so as to find the most stable overclocked frequency..!!

Thermal Spec for the T9300 is 105c. Yes, 90c may seem high, but it is still within tolerance.

Hey bottoj, what is the highest temp you've reached with the T9300?

    Hi Johnny13oi...
Do you have the Nvidia or the Intel gfx version?

If you have the nvidia, what is your GPU temp during orthos (just curious, mine increases cuz of the poor cooling system)

If you have the intel gfx version, you have nothing to worry about. your cpu (as everyone said) is rated at 105C. You wont be seeing those temps on normal use anyway... unless you are a mathematician or something that does heavy computational stuff with your system...

Also, try undervolting... it really works, my CPU temp @ max was 77C... when i undervolted, its now around 63-65C

My laptop is still in transit, but my buddy hit just about 92 degrees celcius, after he left Orthos on for a few hours (doh!) by accident. Everything ran fine, he figured he just got a cpu from a bad batch.

Uhm NO.Even if you don`t run Orthos, the CPU might still end up being used 100%. So if it can`t pass Orthos,it will surely fail in real life usage too.
Again, NO. MAX temp is 105C before damage starts happening, but CPUs have high temp fluctuations, 1 second it might be at 40C and in 20s it might hit 60-70C.So it`s no joke.
CPUs should never go above 70C.

CPU danger zone is anything above 75-80C.
Consider Undervolting,it will drop 5-20C from max temps.

It's all right. I run F@H 24/7 on my Lenovo Z61T with a CPU (T7200) temp of 88C and I haven't had a single issue. It has been running for months.

I also run F@H on my M1330, but not 24/7 and my temp is around 74C with an undervolted T7100. So I am guessing that your temperature is ok for a T9300 running Orthos.

Try undervolting your cpu if you are concerned. You should also take into consideration that is summer in most parts of the world.
