I just got my system the other day and I didn't get it with the blu-ray drive. It seems it wasn't even on the configuration menu when I ordered my system.

Can anyone check our their device manager and tell me the blu-ray drive you currently have? I'd like to buy one and install it myself (Don't worry I'm pretty tech savvy).

    Thanks!

P.S system seems a little warmer than I would like it. Anyone have any success applying new thermal paste?

I believe it's this model Optiarc. (Sony)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118027

You will then need to buy software to play Bluray discs. Only Corel WinDvD9 and Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra do this, and they cost a bit too...

I've done some research and there seems to be a BC-5600S-01 model as well as BC-5600S model. Not sure what the difference is with the 01 model but I know the price seems to be about 2x that of the regular 5600S model.

Anyone know exactly what the difference is between the two drives? If they even are two drives?

And can any other 1640 owners corroborate that is the correct drive? What does device manager show the drive as? :D

This is why spending < $150 for Dell to install it in the first place makes sense :D (Well, if you can manage to get them to actually give you Blu Ray software :p )

And yes, it's a Sony Opteric.
