Are you monitoring your CPU/RAM usage at the time of dropping? If nothing changes with either of those, it sounds like its probably a server-side problem (lag).

WoW tends to limit people's gaming experiences more than people's machines. An Alienware M17x will lag in Dalaran just as bad as a normal Inspiron 15.

    It is probably over heating.

Do you have the XPS 16 with the 3670? I found when I had that particular configuration, it would overheat when gaming and throttle (slow down). This is because the video card is getting too hot and automatically down clocking. The solution is to prop up your laptop from the back to give it additional airflow or use a notebook cooler. This so far does not happen to my 4670 configured SXPS 16.

    it will help some.

A notebook cooler that raises and blows cool air underneath would probably fix it too.

What kind of temps are you getting after 30mins-1hr of gaming?

just make sure the bottom of the laptop is well ventilated. with my xps16, if i elevate the laptop, none of the parts ever go above 60 degrees celcius.

Yeah, I can game for hours and still not get above 55 degrees C as long as the back is kept raised about an inch.
