Does anyone know when Dell will start shipping the Studio XPS 13 with Windows 7 pre-installed? Will it be an available option on October 22?

    Unrelated question:
Is there a noticeable difference in performance between the Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 (2.13 GHz) vs. P8700 (2.53GHz)? I'm not much of a gamer, mostly a heavy multimedia user...is it worth the additional $75 to make that upgrade?

PassMark gives them scores of 1505 and 1737, respectively. That's about a 15% difference. Not tremendously different.

To answer your question on the Windows 7 thing. I asked Dell and I was told it won't show up as the main OS until the 22nd. Other people on this site claim that they are already shipping systems with Pre-Installed W7. However if you plan on ordering, wait until on or after the 22nd.

It is beyond me why Dell would do the easy upgrade for Inspirons and Studios at this point but not for the Studio XPS. I guess perhaps they are catering to those branded systems because they are more popular for the general public. :(

My EPP rep just informed me that Dell is going to have a downloadable ISO for Windows 7.

Quote: "the upgrade Is really easy to do. Its actually just a download over the net. You don’t even need a CD. Just register at www.dell.com/windows7 and you’ll be good to go. Have a good day."

Yeah I'm hoping he's right. He was extremely well-informed on everything i've talked to him about. He mentioned that he was in a meeting regarding the win7 upgrade process early that morning so maybe its a newer option that they are still figuring out and havn't really announced yet.

I was wondering about this too - although for a 16.

I have the spec I want saved in my basket and the "Windows 7 Upgrade Eligible" offer showed an expiry of the 30th December. That changed today to the 17th October.

It makes sense that you'll be able to order from Sunday as Thursday would be the very earliest they would be able to get a system out - processed Monday, Built Tuesday and shipped wednesday.
