Hello all...my girlfriend dropped her studio 1537 laptop from chair height this morning. She initially didn't think anything of it because it slid to the ground rather than fell, but this afternoon she discovered that the screen had shattered! I don't think this kind of thing is covered under warranty, and in fact, a call to dell indicates a repair cost of over $350.
I think the only option is to replace the screen myself, provided I can determine the original screen specs and find a replacement for a reasonable price. I realize that the warranty will probably be voided after this operation, but the laptop is useless now. Interestingly enough, when she called dell, they offered to sell her a service contract with the idea that she wait a few days before calling for a service repair.....she declined the offer.
Does anyone have experience replacing a laptop screen? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks...

I just realized that I posted in the wrong section of the dell forum....apologies!
Moderator please move if necessary....thanks again!

What is the service contract? Complete Care accidental damage? That will probably cost around or even less than the cost of a screen, so why not go that route? They will fix it for you and you will still have accidental damage for the rest of the warranty period.

If you want to do it yourself, just go to eBay and search "Studio 1537 screen," there are lots of results.

Agreed, I think it would be wiser to get the complete care and then report it a week later. That's why I spent a bit extra on my SXPS 16 and got 3 yrs of complete care.

Wow, it's nice to see that Dell is changing their Policies on how Complete Care is controlled. Seems like they are being more *relaxed* with it...

I hope everything works out for you the way it should OP & things are fixed the cheapest & easiest way for you! ;)

As Joker said , Go to dell and upgrade the warranty to complete care, it will cost you about $100 or a little more. Call dell a few days later and they would replace it
