I'm not too sure if this has ever been asked here, but I have a home theater system with built in Dolby Digital. My question I guess is, can I run that through my laptop instead of using it's speakers? I bought the Soundblaster HD software with my M1710 in case that helps any, I only really care to do this with games and maybe a few movies here and there. If the Soundblaster software will not work for that purpose, is there an addon piece of hardware I will need to purchase? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

A couple months ago, I bought a cable off of e-bay that might work for you. The easiest way/simplest cable you could buy is a 3.5mm (headphone jack sized) input on one end, and RCA (the red and white tips) on the other. This way you can just go from your headphone jack into your stereo which I'm certain has RCA input.

The actual cable I had also included an S-video to RCA, so I can easily connect both video and audio from my laptop to my t.v.. If you search on e-bay for "3.5mm RCA cable", you should easily find one. I got a 25 foot cable, which turned out to be much longer than I needed, but you can get a 6', 12', or 15' even cheaper. My cable was about $18 after shipping I think.

    Hope that helps.
