Or rather than adopting the poor workaround of having your fans on more than necessary, will you demand Dell fix the undelying fault with the Nvidia GPU in your XPS. Personally I would rather wait to see if or when my GPU fails and then demand a suitable replacement, warranty or not.

    And "The" debate continues...

By the way, have you taken a look around (I guess not much, no?) the numerous threads doing around here and thought about participating there in the ongoing discussion? Probably you would also get an idea about how many have installed already (many have already installed already, just to answer your Q specifically, not only in M1530 but in other systems for which Dell released the update for), the issues they faced (if any), the improvements we (those who installed) had, the temperature observations, so on and so forth!!!!

Do drop in the other threads mate :) There are some wonderful arguments, discussions, reasonings, explanations, performance reports and its being updated almost daily. Hope it helps. Cheers. :)

PS. personally, I have installed the update, temperatures are perfectly fine, the fan doesn't come up as often as some think (check http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2008/07/25/nvidia-gpu-update-for-dell-laptop-owners.aspx for more details, see update 2: specifically), my laptop is cool (in every way), cards are fine (at least till now), and finally no matter what, when your manufacturer releases an update or a temporary fix or whatever you may like to call it, I would always prefer to follow it up and see what happens in the future, because I think in any case when and if Dell (or nVidia) come up with a fix for this mess, they would probably be on top of the BIOS or probably Dell would just release another BIOS update getting back the fans to be normal as it was before this mess, which wouldn't be a harm on any day. :) Cheers

The underlying fault is the GPU, and it can only be replaced by another one, which may also fail after a while. Not much they can fix.

I just did it just for the extra cooling benefits. Though really, the "replacement" that the warranty covers, is a refurbished unit. If I wanted a refurbished unit, I would have ordered from the Dell outlet in the first place and not a brand new one.

... with or without new BIOS , i'm plannin to sell my XPS (get rid of it).
It's new it's under warranty . Only trick is to find somebody who dont know already about those faulty GPUs.
One is for sure , i'll wait to see Dell's actions about this. The New Line . Maybe something appropriate will come up - and especially not nvidia in! .

Soo i'm plannin soon to join another section this forum. I really like Dell but , there isn't ati alternative. Maybe Gigabyte or Asus ... will see .

Although I was aware of the many faulty GPU related threads here I didn't see any that related specifically to this question of should or shouldn't we let Dell/Nvidia off the hook by installing the bios.

Apologies if this has been repeated on other threads. Mods, feel free to move/delete if necessary.
