Are you running the game with the laptop plugged in, with the power option set to "Balanced" or "High Performance?" If you're set to "Power Saver" you're limiting the power of your CPU, similar to running off the battery but not as extreme.

Initially it was on power saver mode with power chord plugged in , now i have changed it to high performance but still same problem persists.
also some times when i see movies in HD format , it continues to play very well for half n hour n den pictures come with interruptions n lot of sound disturbances.

My configuration is as follows :

    1) 8 gb ram

    2) 2 gb nvidia (540m)

    3) I7 2nd gen (2Ghz)

I assume you are running your games with Intel GPU (Optimus). Try to launch your game with right click on a shortcut and selecting "Run with nvidia high performance graphics" or something like this. I don't have Optimus, so can't be sure.

Can't say for sure about HD movies, but I don't think there is something wrong with your heatsink. Did you check your temperatures for CPU and GPU? You can use this tool to do it. Also I recommend to use the latest codecs. I am using 'K-Lite codec pack' for a long time and am completely satisfied.
