Should I wait for the RGBLED screen for Studio XPS 16?

It seems Dell does not have any RGBLED screens available for the XPS 16. What are the biggest advantage of the RGBLED instead of the other options Dell offers? Should I wait for the RGBLED? I'm not going to do any high-end photo or video editing, and I've heard that's one good reason to have that screen.

    Any opinions are gladly welcome.

    Thanks

Yes. Once you calibrate it using one of the ICC's in the RGBLED thread it's a truly stunning screen.

Does the RGBLED still cause some of the throttling issues? It was noted that it draws more power and caused throttling with the power hungry I7's. This was stated after the power adaptor upgrade to 130w and the new bios but have not heard this was confirmed or not?

Also there was mention of lines and refresh issues on screen. Any care to speak on these?

    Thaks,

Hey there, it might be worth waiting for the SXPS 16 update that is coming very soon (this week we're hoping). New Graphics card and other changes.
RGB LED is probably still available if you order with a Dell rep on the phone, as they can give you more options than the site will. Plus if you get a nice rep you could try and get some money off or something!
    Good luck!

I got mine with the RGB screen a couple of weeks ago. I read all 54 pages on the RGB calibration thread (plus more web research) and tried half a dozen color profiles along with several different video card settings. It can be very frustrating. The fundamental problem is that the web is mostly in a narrower color space (called sRGB) than the computer's display.

In the end I got something I was happy with (the wallpapers iaTa posted really are stunning). But you really have to be willing to work on it, and there are compromises between making the web look normal and making pictures look great.

I have not seen the WLED side by side with the RGB, but my advice is buy the RGB if you are into photography or enjoy playing with technology. Buy the WLED if you just want to browse the web and have it work out of the box.

No, the new graphics card should be one of the new HD5xxx series from ATI.

WOW am I lucky that I seen this thread, I was just about to purchase a SXPS tomorrow when I Googled about the RGDLED screens and found this!

Can I ask how you guys know there will be an update soon?

And any ideas if it will be granted to the Ireland store?

Tomorrow is supposed to be the day Dell unveil the details. Whether it's a new laptop or just an upgrade it will certainly be available in Ireland but as for when nobody would have a clue. Just be patient : p

Dell updates its offers every Thursday morning, so if there is going to be an update then it should happen then. And the Dell rep I spoke with said that the RGB LED would still be available on the update, but the update in question may all just be speculation and rumours, BUT a lot of people think it is very likely.

RGB LED is available on the UK site atm, and if you telephone Dell they may have more options than you can see on the site.

screw it, I'm sure I will be kicking myself next week but I just went ahead and got the xps 16 with the wled 1080p option. I need it for photo editing but I can't bother to wait for something that may not come back(RGBLED). Judging from the RGBled setting thread it seems like a pain to get the colours just right:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/382939-studio-xps-16-1080p-rgbled-settings.html

I figure I can always get a e-ips monitor in the end and would be better anyway. Let you guys know how I like it when it comes in, but knowing my luck will be updated next week sometime and I just bought a dated system... ahhh well... so goes computers and anything electronic... no patience on my part... lol

Haha, well I currently am able to purchase with the RGBLED screen [Ireland site] but don't know if I should wait for a new Video card!

Very impatient too, and I think the 4000 series is fine anyway. :)

I'm sure the current model is good enough, I've given in waiting for this update now so I think I'll be ordering tomorrow.
A Dell rep told me that I wouldn't be seeing a new model for at least a month now, but I'm not sure who to believe when it comes to this update now!

And the new model has said to be a 'facelift' of the current models, and some rumour that USB 3.0 and other amazing stuff could be included!

But it's all rumours, and as far as I know it could all be rubbish! Get the 1645/47 while it's here!

I know, I'll be pretty annoyed considering I've been waiting since December to get a new i7 MBP, but now I've decided I want a Windows machine after all that waiting!

Personally I don't really care about the facelift as I think it looks pretty damn sweet as it is.

And as for USB 3.0, I no longer use any external drives or anything so I don't have huge need for it at all. :)

The MBP looks good. The battery life and switchable graphics is a nice thought compared to the SXPS 16!

But the SXPS is an XPS! And it looks gorgeous! Get it in white! :D

rgb led is nice for brightness at the best. i personally did not think the colors were 100% accurate. not to mention that it eats so much of your battery life. sometimes when working at total night/dark, the lowest brightness is still so bright and it can stress your eyes.

also, the money doesnt really worth it.. i think the WLED 15.6inch 1080 is def good enough.

but get it if battery life and money isnt a problme
