    Hi,

I hear people talking about Back to School sales and I'm wondering if a week or two of waiting won't hurt me (read: big discounts). I have never witnessed Dell's Back to School sales so for those of you who have -- were there big savings in the XPS m1530 line?

Should I wait for this sale?

    Thanks!

it basically is back to school, if u wait a lil bit more prolly only a lil bit more cheaper or just a bundle pack, theres still the 25% off $1499 or more on a xps 1530 or 20% on a $1199 i believe

What is Dell's policy if the price goes down after an order has been placed. My shipping date is estimated at Aug. 19. Will Dell adjust my price if my order has not be shipped, or do I have to cancel and then re-order? Is there a fee for canceling an order?

As long as it has not shipped, you can cancel an order with no penalty

The real question is when is Montevina coming? the answer will result in a massive sale of the existing XPS line up.

That is a good question. I'd rather purchase the model right now if Dell decides to do a giant price hike on the refresh.

return, believe 21 days from shipping date... dell has an option to charge u 15% restocking, but usually Dell CSR waives it, or u can complain and they'll waive or give u a $100 to not return it

but check M1330 Est Ship Date... think the Dell EPP $1268 model has a date of september 1...... different specs/parts may mean earlier, but if u want one by september, order around now

Officially, once it's shipped the only thing you can do is return it and re-order. Unofficially, If it's already shipped or you have it and you are within your 21 day return period, you can call Dell and ask what they'll do for you. Oftentime they will give you a credit back on your purchase price to avoid having to take what you ordered back.

Keep in mind the last thing Dell wants is to take a laptop back after it has shipped. They pay return shipping (this costs them more money off the profit of your sale), make zero dollars on it (you get 100% refund), and then they have to sell it as a refurb via the outlet store for 10% or more less than it's original sale price.

Several people have commented here that they have been able to do this when there have been significant price changes on the components they had just purchased. This also works if there has been a significant hardware refresh/upgrade as well. What kind of credit/refund you get will vary but it is worth pursuing if things change right after you "pull the trigger".
