I dunno, what are your thoughts on this? I KNOW its personal preference, but if you are still within the return period or were, would you ship back your M1530 with 250GB 7200RPM just to get a 320GB 7200RPM drive because the latter wasnt available when you made your purchase?

No. Not really worth it. 250 GB is pretty big, and thats what externals are for.

There will always be something new. By the time you get the new one, there will be 500gb drives. Keep it.

I received my first XPS 1530 with a 200 GB HD and 1440x900 resolution screen (it did have a nice LG screen) just a few days before the LED screen and 250 GB HD became available. I started having driver problems right off the bat and a few BSOD’s so I returned it and ordered the LED screen and the slightly larger HD (the new 250 GB HD was the same price as I had paid for the 200 GB HD).

FWIW my new 1530 hasn’t given me any problems but then again it’s barely a month old. If your 1530 isn’t giving you any problems I would keep it, you may not be so lucky next time plus you could end up waiting weeks for your new 1530 and as already pointed out 250 GB is still more than adequate and if more storage space is needed external HD’s are readily available.

Well its not, and if I return and order a new one, I would be able to get a replacement anyway if its not perfect. Considering people are saying Dell has fixed the problem with CD drives and stuff. I dunno, Im thinking, since its an opportunity and its only 50 bucks more, why not buy it? It'll save me the trouble of paying 300 bucks or something in the long run when I want to get a new HD.

The way I think of it, since yes, I did have to wait two weeks to get it, and it did take some time to get the replacement, but if it weren't for that, I probably wouldnt have the opportunity to return my laptop for a full refund in order to order a new one with a higher hard drive. Who knows, if I get lucky, WSXGA+ LED displays will appear maybe within the 21 days I make my reorder. You never know.

Its one of those things thats like "Man, I wish they had this option when I was purchasing it, if this was there, I wouldve chosen this option in a heartbeat."

Kinda like a "can be rectified" buyers remorse, you know?

I guess it just depends how much you value your time and if you can be bothered...

How much is a 320 GB 7200 drive on the retail market? I know I just bought a 250 GB 5400 for 100 bucks. If I were you, I'd not risk shipping back an otherwise perfect machine for an extra 70 GB of drive space. Rather, I'd just buy a new 320 on the retail market, swap out your 250, and then get an external USB enclosure for the 250. Use the external for backups, carrying around extra media files, or whatever.

    Just a thought.

A student. OK, I remember that. Then I imagine that my suggestion to just buy a 2nd drive wasn't the best then. Well, maybe it'd make sense for some lurker reading along.

Yeah, but you know I just looked at Newegg and I don't see any 320 7200 drives listed. Not even any 250's. Only 200's. (The Seagate 200 7200 RPM was $150.) I wonder if the retail availibility lags significantly behind the OEM supply.

Yeah, thats because 320 7200s arnt officially released for retail, as for the 250s... I guess Newegg just doesnt have them yet.

My point exactly. If you really want, a 320GB 7200 RPM Seagate Momentus 7200.3 drive can be ordered through Dell Spare Parts for about 250 bucks shipped. This is only bound to reduce as time goes on. I don't think its worth your time or effort to send back an otherwise perfect machine, just for the extra HD space and the marginal performance gain.

That doesnt make any sense considering adding the 320GB hard drive in customization costs 300 bucks. Typically aftermarket upgrades are more expensive from the customization arn't they?

Not always, a lot of times RAM is much cheaper after-market.

Call or chat with Dell Spare Parts if you dont believe me. Dell P/N is U093F. I actually ordered this drive for my uncle and its already shipped. My total cost was around 250 dollars.

Um, you know you can only return within 30 days right?
    And you've modded it...

    Unless that was a joke...
In which case... why'd you bump a month old thread?

Just to patch up the fact it was an invalid part number. I wouldnt want anyone on Google finding this thread thinking that the part number that Booji gave was the correct one. Its just to prevent any confusion. You can leave it be now.
