    All the rave reviews I've read for the XPS 13 made me want to buy one. But when I look at consumer level feedback like this forum and elsewhere, I see a lot of owners posting about similar problems ... and Dell support doesn't always get rave reviews.

    Am I taking a risk if I buy one of these? Are there widespread problems with them?

    Buy it. You'll be fine. Make sure you have a warranty.

    You can't estimate failure rates by reading forum posts, because the only people who post are people that have problems. If the failure rate is 2%, you'll find people from that 2% that might come and complain of problems. But you won't find 98 other people coming here saying:

    Works as expected
    Works as expected
    Works as expected
    Works as expected
    Works as expected
    ... Etc.

    So don't worry, you'll be fine. But the laptop, and enjoy it.
