Sandforce controllers in general have issues. Sometimes they work fine, other times they crap out inside 2 months. It doesn't matter what the system is, it is the bad QC by Sandforce.

I'm not aware of any real M4 issues with the XPS. Mine runs great. If you are referring to the stuttering issue, the newest firmware (0002) for the M4 fixes this issue with no registry fixes required.

Crucial, Intel, Samsung. Those are the SSD brands to go after. Any of the models are good, and the manufacturers actually care to fix any issues that do occur (unlike OCZ and Sandforce for that matter).

Well my point is that issues with the drives are independent of the system. Sandforce drives have a nasty habit of dying after a couple of months. There are no real hardware incompatibilities to speak of though, no.

I agree with matt, avoid sandforce, and my m4 runs very well to.

I've been considering an SSD for my L502X but I've decided to hold off until they are available in larger capacities at lower prices.

I bought an OCZ Vertex 2E for my E-350 Netbook, it worked amazingly... for 3 hours, then turned off and never worked again. Replaced it with a Crucial M4 128GB and it's been working great for months.

So yeah, another "Crucial are good, OCZ are terrible" vote from me.

After owning four highly unstable OCZ SSDs (one returned to retailer, three eventually RMA'd to the point I sold them) I wouldn't touch any of their products. I've heard enough about SandForce drives to avoid them entirely too. After that incident I have not touched an SSD with the exception of my MBA (no option for a hard drive).

There is really little reason to not consider Intel. They have had their troubles too but Intel has the lowest failure rate amongst all the brands and they've always come through to fix their problems (always firmware related).

yes.Thats enought info for me :D.And for what i see hyperx ssd is just Vertex3 with another name.they use the same sandforce controler with the same NAND technology.I am little disappointed of reviews that i read.Kingston promoting that hyperx drive increase fps in games. This is one of the main benefits of this ssd.Why they did not test this. Now i see M4 128 gb in my xps.

Yea, the Kingston uses the same controller, and it is the controller that is generally the problem. Sandforce controllers are just plain garbage. Plus the company has only EXISTED for less than 2 years!

And as was said before, SSDs really can't improve your fps unless there is something else majorly wrong with your system. That's why it isn't tested...CPU and GPU and to an extent RAM are the only things that have a bearing on fps. The benefit to SSDs is massively reduced LOADING times in games installed to the SSD (definitely true) and overall much more responsiveness. Everything will launch quicker, respond quicker, and it is a great overall experience. I can't stand spinners now, I go nuts when using a traditional hard drive-installed OS :D I even managed to get them to upgrade my workstation at work that I do a lot of Solidworks modeling on to an SSD (Intel 320 120GB), and that has been a massive boost, way worth it.

My Vertex 240GB is also working fine, i had once of the first here in holland, right after i got my XPS17

The only thing is that i need to be on firmware revision 2.09 (if i upgrade to 2.11 it will BSOD now and then)

But with 2.09 it is rock solid until now no problems what so ever. Using it now from April on or something like that.
