After have my XPS 1645 (specs in sig), my throttling has gotten to the point where I cannot play even old games for more than five minutes before my computer throttles and FPS drops into the single digits. If I try to stop the throttling with ThrottleStop the computer will shut down after about 30 minutes of playing (Company of Heroes).
Most of the time this computer is giving me the performance for one that should cost half the price. I am extremely disappointed with the supposed quality of this "high spec" laptop, and I feel the pain of all the other people who have had to deal with this type of BS from Dell.
To add insult to injury my speakers are no long crisp and clear, but instead sound crackly and only one or two of the speakers work at any one time.
However, what makes my situation difficult is the fact that shortly after purchasing the computer I moved to South Korea to work here for a year. Any idea what my best chance of recourse is?
I know that I am going to have to jump through hoops with this, but I am so frustrated with this computer already and I'm hoping you guys can help me get this situation resolved as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I am surprised that you are throttling at all. I have a similarly spec'd machine, but I have never throttled to date.
Have you tried doing a complete re-install of Windows, drivers and all? What about closing your lid and playing games on an external monitor, do you throttle with the lid closed too? What about your BIOS, which version are you running? Are you overclocking your GPU (via seeker_moc's modded BIOS or otherwise)?
How about your power adapter, do you have the 130W? Users with the 90W adapter (supposedly, or maybe I got this wrong) and a quad core processor suffered from throttling due to the lack of power being supplied to the notebook.
I am quite certain that you are not throttling due to temperatures, since you have a 5xxx series ATi card.
Sorry for the barrage of questions, but I figure the more details we can get, the better we can narrow down the issue and help you solve it if possible. Let's hope that you won't have to jump through too many hoops. -
When I first got my laptop I did a clean install of windows and have kept all my drivers up to date fairly regularly.
Throttling isn't as bad with the lid closed but this isn't an option as I don't have an external monitor with me here, and personally I would like to be able to use my laptop with or without an external monitor. No overclocking going on here either.
My current bios is A12, but I've tried running with the recommend A09 and still experienced throttling, although less severe but the computer was even more prone to shutting down due to overheating.
I do have the 130w adapter, it came standard with my laptop.
The throttling has been getting significantly worse the longer I've had the computer.
Anything else I should try before I start bugging Dell for giving me a lemon of a computer? -

What temps do your CPU and GPU reach when throttling starts? Have you tried cleaning out your heatsink? It may be full of dust, preventing it from cooling adequately.

I also have throttling with the LCD open...but it's just GPU throttling.
Go back to A09 and post the throttlestop log please -
Going back to A09 does nothing for the 5730. The A09 vBIOS was unique for 4670s only.

It doesn't increase max temp? I thought A12 can be used because the 5730 generates less heat..thus never reaching the temp limit (84c?).
However in his case maybe it does? -

If you have a warranty call dell, you should not be having an issue i have the same i7-720QM / 4GB DDR3 / ATI HD 5730 / 500GB @ 7200 / 15.6" WLED (1920 x 1080) and I never had an issue, i agree this thing can get HOT but not issues, anyway .... Maybe the heat is not going away from the GPU or CPU?
