Hi, i currently have two 1330s... one with LED and one with CCFL

The LED is a toshiba LCD2306, the CCFL an AUO Optronics, the CCFL looks MUCH better which seems to me total nonsense since the LED is supposed to be better in all aspects.

I will be contacting customer service. Should i be asking specifically for the samsung LED?

They wont be able to give you the Samsung one specifically, the customer service can't order the parts specifically, they just grab whatever.

Anyway, I have 2 M1330's at the moment, one with the Samsung LED and one with the Toshiba, I'm sending the Toshiba one back, even though that one is my brand new replacement laptop, there's no way I'm accepting it, simply because of the screen quality.

The M1330 LED screens got horrible color reproduction, all of them, but the Toshiba one is even worse than the Samsung one. At least I get clear whites with the Samsung.

Looks like there is no consistency with quality of the LED screens, you have to depend on luck.
I had two M1330 for some time, one with CCFL and the other with a Toshiba LED, they both seem to be good. The LED won at the end because it was thinner with a bit more vivid colors and better whites and blacks, other than that brightness was about the same, but really not much of a difference.
So far I really like this Toshiba LED!!!

You can try but they won't be able to guarantee you a specific screen. My original 1330 came with the Samsung and looked gorgeous except it had a little red push. However, the computer had a horrible CPU whine, and graphics problems on boot up, as well as a couple of dead pixels on the screen.
The replacement came with the Toshiba which in my opinion is not as good as the Samsung. I had Dell send out a replacement which was supposed to be as Samsung and they sent another Toshiba. I refused it and the next two screens they sent were CMOs which I also refused. They then told me there was no way to get me a Samsung. I just decided to live with the Toshiba. I have adjusted to it and am happy overall.
Another thing that turned me off of wanting the screen replacement was the techs they sent out. Some of them were just trained and didn't have very good knowledge of what they were doing.

    Good luck

You will never believe my luck. I had the Samsung Screen and the very first day I got it it showed Grey banding 2 in wide stripes down the screen if you pulled the screen toward you. I had it replaced and they sent out a Toshiba. I see what everyone is saying about the whites. It's very grainy. The Samsung, other than the issue with the all black backgrounds, was a much better screen as far as color reproduction. I also noticed after the screen replacement that I have dents between the touch pad and the keboard. I watched the tech so I don't think he caused it. I just checked the laptop more closely after the repair and found them. Not sure if it's an overtightened screw or just bad assembly from Dell. ANyone else have these dents?

You may be able to loosen some screws to get rid of or lessen the dents. If that doesn't work and it really bothers you, try removing the palmrest, and pressing on the other sides of the dents to remove.

Check the service manual. It looks really complicated, but is really easy to do. Just keep track of which screws are for which area.

The LED isn't supposed to be better in all aspects. It would just be thinner, brighter, and perhaps a bit more power efficient. Colour reproduction/graininess depends on the LCD panel itself, not its backlight.

An LED back-lit panel doesn't necessarily mean a superior panel as we can see from the examples in this thread.

Mystery, just a side note, I mentioned the Vostro Black Keyboard to the Tech that replaced my screen and he said to watch out swaping the open air keyboard for a solid back one. He said the holes allow for cooling. Have you noticed elevated temps after swaping out the boards?

Thanks for the heads-up. I was wondering this myself. I haven't noticed significantly increased temps. Maybe I'll swap back and see if there is a difference.

I just checked the original silver keyboard, and although there are numerous holes, the back-side of it has a clear plastic blocking all of them.

I don't see how the original keyboard could dissipate heat any better than the vostro one.

    My black keyboard stays installed!

Of course, if I send it in for warranty, I will put the original silver one on.

I really like your setup so thanks for the report back. I will probably follow your lead. The black looks really cool and if it gives better key feel and feedback then it's a no brainer.
