Hey guys, after a month I finally got my SXPS16 but dell screwed up and gave me the discontinued 1366x768 16" screen when I asked for a 900p 15.6"... they told me I could keep the laptop until the replacement gets here which could be 7-10 days. I want to go ahead and set everything up on this new computer but I am unsure if there is a warranty sticker or something on the harddrive bay. Would I void my warranty if I swapped this harddrive into my replacement? And how hard is it to access the drive?

You don't lose warranty for opening the computer, but they might not be happy about you swapping the drives (even if they are the same model).

I've done it in the past, they don't care as long as they are equivalent parts.

just make sure the parts are same... though i'm sure they won't give you a free upgrade to 500GB from 320GB, or 5400to 7200rpm

it will obviously be the same computer... its a replacement... if it isn't i'm going to be even more pissed about my whole situation than I already am, and u dont want to see how mad I already am... look in my sig... as of right now i will never be buying another dell in my life

My computer took 4 weeks to get here because it was sitting in the queue for 2 extra weeks because the 900p screen was backordered... the screen comes back in stock 8/10, it took them 8 days from that point (after being expedited TWICE) for them to even build my machine... FINALLY 27 days after ordering my machine is built and overnighted to me... I open it up AND I GET THE DAMN DISCONTINUED 720p SCREEN... not only did I wait 2 extra weeks for this 900p to be in stock, I waited an extra week for it to be built after the screen was in stock and my machine was supposedly 1st in line.. and they give me a screen that I canceled my original 7/19 order because the new ones came out... im livid, they obviously put it in my computer thinking i wouldn't notice, there is no way something as massive as the screen could be wrong, they build computers a 1000 times a day... to top it off they tell me 7-10 days to build my new machine and they will call me in 2 days to update me on the status... I have 6 unanswered emails over the past week, 3 to my sales rep, 3 to his supervisor, I have 2 unanswered voicemails, one each to both of them Over this past month I have called dell about 15 times, i've had 2 call backs, one was after I explained I dont get call backs then took the persons # and name down to assure a call back, and I got one

It's definitely unacceptable for how long your order was delayed. You have far more patience than I do, I doubt I'd have been able to wait. I think the best course of action for you would have been to cancel the order and re-order. Dell will set things right but you just need to reach the right people and unfortunately that can be challenging at times.

It's a shame that Dell's service depends on who you are talking to. Some are great and really go the extra mile to help you, whereas others are only there to see how fast they can get your blood boiling and steam come out of your ears...

I wish you luck with your new machine! Hope it works out...
