    Hi All,

It's been over a month since I purchased my unit from Dell Malaysia and just yesterday I faced this very unusual problem with my keyboard. Keys 6 7 y u h j n m were not functioning. Did any of you experienced the same problem?

I am currently here in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and in case any of you knows how I can manage to avail Dell's warranty service from he I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

OMG, I've got the exact same problem!

It started yesterday, all of a sudden. And it's the same combination of keys - 67yuhjnm. They're not stuck or anything, it's just that nothing appears when you press them.

    What could this possibly be?

Anyone else has experienced something similar? It's a good thing I have Face Recognition activated, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to even log in!

I'm not trying to make a fun of you, but how did you type which letters don't work? :-D

(I know that you probably wrote it from different PC, but I simply had to ask...)

Yeah, this is a different computer. I know, I should have mentioned it in the original post. I'm no troll :)

This is pretty awful though. Any suggestions/theories will be much appreciated. I didn't spill anything on it, or dropped it.

Fact that both of you have same problem suggests that it's a software problem, but that's probably all I can say about it... :-/

I thought it could be a virus, and I did a virus scan yesterday, but it didn't pick up anything.

I Googled it, and there were some people whose computers kept typing the same key combination in their browser searches on their own (computer takeover?) It's just bizarre.

I'll try to do a system restore tonight, but I'm not very hopeful. I'll probably have to have someone from Dell come out this weekend to take a look at it.

    What a drag!

I have the same situation on my SXPS 1645.
I phoned to the service, and they sent me a keyboard.

Wow, are you saying that the exact same keys (67yuhjnm) failed on yours? That is very strange.

I called Dell's support yesterday, and they're sending a technician. They asked me to try typing in DOS first, thinking it might be related to some applications, but that failed too, so it's definitely a hardware problem.

I also did a system restore thing on my own, and it did nothing.

On another note, if someone is having the same trouble and can't even log in because they don't have Facial Recognition activated, I discovered that under Fast Access there is an option to use a virtual keyboard. It also works with all programs once you log in. At least it's a temporary solution until the technician shows up. I do not have an external USB keyboard, so that was my only option to continue (somewhat) using the laptop.

It's so frustrating, as I wanted to do lots of work this weekend :(

Yes, I have a problem with exactly the same kes.
I booted from Ubuntu Live CD, the situation has not changed.
I found one thing. When I move the lid, in several positions, the keys worked, in some it was impossible to press the buttons with the shift key.
    Sorry for my English.

Wow, it sounds like it's not an isolated incident. Have you tried contacting Dell's support?

Zeon.ua, thanks for the tip about changing the lid position. It seems like the keys do work when the lid is half closed. Not that I would want to type anything in that position. But, yes, it is definitely a hardware problem.

I contacted Dell Friday morning, I haven't heard back yet as to when the technician is going to come out. I hope it gets resolved this week. The virtual keyboard is driving me nuts.

No. I did not contact with Dell support, but I will. I have a small problem my Laptop was bought in US but now I am in Ukraine.

I think that the keys start works after temperature of laptop goes up. That's my theory.

Bro! I have the same situation :)
    I'm from Kiev.
Have you made the "transfer warranty"? It's needed for getting service in Ukraine.

The only way to solve this problem is to replace the keyboard. I hope you're still under warranty.

Your problem actually sounds like you're accidentally touching the touch pad while typing. I used to do this occasionally and had to train myself not to. Next time it happens, see if this is the reason.

You have to call to the service.
The problem will repeat from time to time, after that those keys will stop forever.
