Anyone know if Dell has this up their sleeves for future release? I see the ambient light sensor service in services.msc and I really want to use it!

    That's a Windows 7 thing, not a Dell thing.

There's no ambient light sensors on any Dell that I'm aware of. Even without a light sensor though, Windows 7 can automatically dim the screen after a period of inactivity as part of the power policy, but the interface to control the display brightness isn't exposed by the SXPS BIOS. This is actually pretty curious since it worked on my 4 year old Inspiron.

I wanted more of when it's dark for the sensors to turn on the keyboard's light.

The 1645 has no ambient sensor, so that will never happen...as Is aid...the ambient service you see is a default Windows 7 service...nothing to do with the hardware it's installed on.
