I have a STUDIO XPS 1640 I bought an USB Digital Microscope I cannot get the drivers to install! I have a dell desktop both the notebook and the desktop are running the same version of windows vista and the drivers for the USB Digital Microscope installed on the desktop. :( So my question is how do I get the USB Digital Microscope working on my STUDIO XPS 1640 notebook? I really need to get the USB Digital Microscope to work on the notebook. The reason I bought the notebook was to keep the my kid off my desktop!
    Thanks for your time

Maybe you have to get the 64-bit version driver ?

I have 64-bit version driver for the USB Digital Microscope. I have windows Vista home premium on both my desktop and the STUDIO XPS 1640 notebook. And the drivers loaded on the desktop that is why I think it is a STUDIO XPS 1640 problem. If there was a problem with the drivers then it should not have loaded on my desktop right?

Not really an error message windows starts the program to install the drivers then it shuts down, windows says " not the right drivers for your webcam" or something close to that.

Like I said before "I have 64-bit version driver for the USB Digital Microscope. I have windows Vista home premium on both my desktop and the STUDIO XPS 1640 notebook and it installed with no problems on my desktop."

    thanks for your time

Have you tried disabling the internal microphone? Right-click the volume icon in the bottom left, hit recording devices, and right-click/disable the onboard microphone.

Do not know what disabling the internal microphone has to do with a the working or a USB Digital Microscope but I tried it. I disabled the internal microphone and it still did not let me install the USB Digital Microscope drivers.

    Thanks for your time

There could've been a conflict, I was thinking, with resources. Guess not. :(

What's the exact error message it gives you? Expand a bit more on "loaded on your desktop". Like an icon came up, then? Of what?

The program that installs the drivers for the USB Digital Microscope stops and I get a window that says “Not the right drivers for your USB camera”
Then a windows opens saying new Hardware found windows needs to install driver software for your USB camera. On my desktop computer it is installed as “USB Digital Microscope” not a USB camera.
In Device Manager on my notebook it has it listed as a USB camera with a yellow exclamation point.
    Thanks for your time

And the drivers are specifically stated to work with Vista?

Try right-clicking the device in Device Manager, then hit update driver. Click "Browse my computer for software". Then include the CD/DVD/folder where the drivers are at.

Ok like I said I have the same verson of windows on my notebook and my desktop "windows Vista home premium" . The program that installs the drivers for the "USB Digital Microscope" load [worked] so the USB Digital Microscope works on the desktop. My the way the desktop is also a dell.

Now the problem with the notebook.
The program that installs the drivers for the USB Digital Microscope stops and I get a window that says “Not the right drivers for your USB camera”
The problem or at least as I see it on my desktop it is installed as an USB Digital Microscope not a USB camera. The STUDIO XPS 1640 notebook has an build in webcam the desktop does not that is the only different I see. They both have 6 GB of RAM, both have Radeon video cards. Both have intel dual core CPUs.

    OK, right....

Did you try updating the drivers in Device Manager, for the USB Camera with an exclamation point?

Tried disabling the internal webcam just for the installation?
