How safe is it using the 24inch with the 8600M GT in the long run? Would the card die out faster?

hmm.. good point.. can you take note of your 1530 GPU temps if its connected to your 24 inch and when its not... i think this is one of the measure to check if your GPU is exerting much effort to cater your 24" display...

It's safe in the long run. What you are more concerned with would be accumulating heat cycles.

I would be running this at full 1920x1080 for regular stuff but for games a little lower.

I use my M1330 (Which I think has a greater failure rate than M1530) as the primary PC with a 26” (1920x1200). I used to have a 22” (1680x1050) for about a year during which my GPU went bust once.. now using even a higher res monitor lets see how long it can keep up this time :p .

I have almost 2 more years of warranty left on my 3 Year CC. If you have warranty then no need to worry. BTW DELL is giving an extra 1 year coverage for GPU failures.

Coming back to your original question; Driving a monitor at a higher resolution stresses the card more, but I don’t think the difference is significant for normal desktop work.
