Here's what I'm going to return:

    XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB 2M L2 Cache)
1 313-6441 Midnight Blue Casing With Microsatin Finish XPS M1530
    1 311-7823 4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm, for XPS M1530
1 320-6693 15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LED LCD with Camera for XPS M1530
    1 320-6081 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G
    1 341-5865 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for XPS M1530

The video quality when watching DVDs is not so high. Do you recommend me upgrading to 256MB? How about the memory specs? I will be using this laptop in college, so I won't be gaming too much, but are the specs above too low?

    Thanks

And I just received this laptop last week, so it's less than 21 days. But how can I tell the Dell representative that I want to return it (and re-order)?

    I suggest

    T8300 2.4
    Midnight Blue
2GB RAM (purchase ram @ another location)
    15.4 1900*1200
    256MB NVIDIA GT
    250 or 320gb 5400rpm

Dvd playback is not dependent on the graphics card. That system should be more than fine to play a dvd. What program are you playing it with, what settings are you using, what power scheme are you running?

You would be able to play DVDs just fine even with integrated graphics.

It plays DVDs fine, but the quality is not as clear as my TV. Hehe... is it supposed to be that way? I thought that with my LED screen, the quality is supposed to be crystal clear.

shinta13: 1900*1200? Does that mean that the picture quality is higher?

What do you mean by not clear? The LCD has a higher resolution than your TV so it won't look the same as on a TV if you view it maximized.

It's not clear. It's blurry and fuzzy compared to my TV.

Any recommendations on the specs I should get for a college student's laptop?

Remember, if it's not defective they'll charge a 15% restocking fee. Of course, not sure if that's too hard to get around or not.

..You could always make it defective. :p

    I wasn't kidding, LOL.

Anyway, I'm gonna get an exchange - the exact same sytem though. They said that it'll arrive 3-5 business days. (I didn't know that they can make it that quick). They wouldn't allow me to change the specs.

mattocs: You just made me worried! Will the laptop say "Refurbished" if it is?

When I talked to the Dell Representative, they said that it will say refurbished if it's refurbished. Otherwise, it's new. Is this true?

as much as i harp on Dell's build quality & CS/QC, it still doesn't justify spending the amount of cash on an MB for essentially the same parts. that and Apple has its own quality control issues.

ETA: if you have the patience to stick w/ Dell then do it, it's a better alt to a Mac.. or you can wait for Montevina later this summer
