So I've decided to upgrade from the 5400RPM WD HDD that came with my M1530 to either of the two:

    Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 320GB 16MB Cache
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148336

    WD Black Scorpio 7200RPM 320GB 16MB Cache
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280

From what I've researched, the Seagate HDD is faster and consumes less power, but I've always been a WD fan and have had multiple reliable products from them. I was wondering if anyone had their own perspective on the HDDs that they upgraded on their M1530.

Funny enough, I just returned one of those seagate momentus drives due to the clicking sound I was getting and noticed on the new egg comment page, someone else was having the same issue. Rather than try another replacement for the faulty one, I'm going to go for the WD drive. I've got one of their 'my passport' 500GB compact external drives and 3 other external drives all with WD drives in them and haven't had a problem in 5 years, so for me anyway, the WD black scorpio 7200rpm drive is the one I'm going to upgrade to on my M1330 to replace the old hitachi 5400 rpm drive.

I've got the WD 320 GB 7200. No problems. Both the WD and Seagate were together on the shelf, but I'd read too many complaints about that Seagate so I picked up the WD.

Had both drives -the WD is quieter-love it . The seagate clicking drove me crazy.

Uuuh, guys... the clicking issue on the seagate has long been resolved with a drive firmware upgrade. You can download if from the Dell site, burn to CD, boot from it, wait 20 min and presto, clicking gone.
